    Hi,

I'm in my final year of Early Childhood Education, came through the CAO entry but if you've any questions on the course, feel free to ask me. :)

I've just been accepted into second year from a FETAC Level 6. The level 5 & 6 were great cause I was able to work part time around it. Will I have that time to do that with the timetables in DIT? Also, shamrock girl, what are your plans now? I'm worried that after I'm done with DIT, my career prospects won't be too different to the way they are now. In other words, do you feel that you'll find employment (in higher up positions) much quicker than say somebody, who just has the FETAC level 5?

Hi, my apologies about the delay in reply. In my opinion second year is the most demanding year, assignment and exam wise. It has a high work load but is more time consuming than difficult!!

My plans now are very uncertain...If i'm too be totally honest its quite difficult, however, I'm only really in the initial stages of job opportunities. With the current economic climate and recession it appears Degree Graduates are suffering most in this sector of employment. In my experience, some early education services feel that they can't pay the level of salary for a Level 8 worker so are employing less qualified staff.
Although none the less I know there are a few of my class mates who got a full time job from their final year college practice placement services. I wasn't so lucky as I was working as a student play specialist in a children's hospital and the HSE are making more cuts in employment, so there was no way I was going to be taken on.

The main obstacle you will face is many services look for 1-2 years employment in early years services and your college work placement on many occasions isn't considered employment by many services. So its the finding the services that are willing to take a risk to employ you without the required reference of a past early years employer.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or comment on this post
    :)
