Printer in black & white only?

99% of things I print are just word documents with no images etc.

I'm going buying a printer this week if possible. Was thinking I don't need a colour printer. Is there such a printer that just uses black ink, no colour cartridges ? Or are these a thing of the past?

I'm sure there is but you can also change the settings on a Printer to only print in Black & White and not colour.

Ok thanks, didn't know that. I've heard of printers that even if you only print in black & white you still have to change the colour cartridges at regular intervals, is this correct?

By no means, the Samsung ML-1675 is a black only laser printer, available at komplett.ie for 49.95 incl. VAT and delivery.

Sounds like what I'm looking for. Quick question, is there a big difference between inkjet & laser printers? Or what is the difference, is one better?

Printing Microsoft word docs, maybe printing a page off internet site, etc

Laser usually print faster than inkjets (Samsung claims 16 pages per minute). Replacement cartridges cost around 50 Euro (i.e. at VikingDirect), you'll get up to 700 pages out of a cartridge (and probably a lot more if you print in draft quality).

Mind you, the Samsung ML-1675 is not a heavy duty business laser printer, it really depends on your prenting needs. If you print hundreds of pages every week, you'd better look for something more robust (although Samsung claims a Monthly Duty Cycle of 5000 pages). If it's just a few pages a day then it's just fine.

Your best bet is laser, inkjets even if only used for black and white printing will use the colour ink regularly during cleaning, so it will mean you'll need to replace the colour inks at some stage, regardless of regular use or not
