Practice, practice, practice..but focus on the right

Change your hurleys. get one longer or shorter if you aren't comfortable.
Change the maker of your hurleys, get a wider bas if you need to.
Shorten your grip and try not to drive it a hundred yards, be comfortable with a consistent 50 and then work up from there.

Practice, practice, practice but change the way you are doing it. Work on your upper body fitness also, the bio-mechanics of a swing vary from person to person. work on your wrists and get the short swing right.

Get into a ball alley and change your swing style. vary the shots, and restrict it to about 20 effective minutes..

Practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent. If you are doing something wrong, then practicing for six months means you are going to get good a doing it badly.

Relax and enjoy it rather than be desperate to succeed.

its sort of a situation where i know myself i have a sweetspot on the bas but i just cant seem to find it consistantly. Thats whats causing me so much frustration. One day id get it and the next i cant.

you striking will always be poor if you have poor presentation of the ball

ie if you don't let the ball drop low enough or if you don't hold the hurley correctly (it should be vertical in front of your face as your throw the ball to strike)
your footwork also has a lot to do with good striking. against a wall you need to turn your feet and hips so that you're at right angles to the wall (ie not facing it)

a lighter smaller hurley will help.
    as will a faster ball
wrist strength also contributes to it and can be improved with exercises

Eye on the ball is very important as well and d'ont go for haymakers until you get more consistent.

I have seen this in the past with other hurlers, when you are striking the wrists have the be in front of the body when striking. I have seen a lot of weaker hurlers swinging the body back to hit the ball forward.

You must get the total body movement right, and as someone said already, you must get your feet and balance right before you strike. In a match this means making space for your self, shortening the swing and striking through the ball allowing the hurling to follow through.

It's nearly impossible to pin it down to one thing, you must balance all factors and keep the positive side over the negative.

Fitness levels have a huge part to play also, being knackered when you get to the ball, means it's impossible to get the best of yourself when you do get possesion.

    1. In Dan Shanahans book, he talked about when Justin McCarthy took over;

The first few weeks, he just had them out on the field with NO SLIOTAR

He had them swinging the hurley in various directions

In essence doing strength training for their wrists

    2. Also, use a wall and tennis ball

    Start from 5 metres away

Get comfortable at striking and catching at this distance (Shorten your grip)

Take a step back and get comfortable at that range

Take a step back and get comfortable at that range

    GOOD LUCK

    &

    DONT GIVE UP

    :)
