    New Lyric Schedule Announced

    Station Denies Dumbing down

RTE spokesperson Phyllis Stynes today announced details of the exciting new autumn schedule for Lyric FM. “Lyric is a little gem” said “Ms Stynes "but like all jewels it needs polishing from time to time”. We’ve tried to freshen it up this year bringing in new talent with less emphasis on minority music. Ms. Stynes rejected suggestions that the station was continuing to dumb down its content. “On the contrary” said Ms Stynes “we are dumbing up”.

    The New Schedule is

    7:00 – 10:00 Marty in the Morning.
The silver haired funster is back with his unique mix of chat, competitions, cookery and all of your classical favourites from Sting to Matt Munroe. Expect cutting edge music interviews with Pavarotti’s barber and a man who lives only two miles from Beethoven’s birthplace.

    10-12 The Gay Byrne Show
The veteran broadcaster makes a welcome return to the daily schedule. Sit back and listen to jazz and opinions from the 1950s.

    12:00-14:00 Tubridy
Moving over from 2FM Tubs will host his usual magazine programme. Ryan is perfect for Lyric, having failed on 2FM. RTE is particularly pleased to have him on Board for the year of the Titanic.

    14:00-16:00 Encore
This new programme offers a showcase to retired RTE presenters to relive the joys of having a daily slot. Expect toe tapping music spanning the whole range from Mantovani to Phil Collins. The only song definitely not on the playlist is “Time to Say Goodbye”.

    17:45 – 18:00 The Marion Finucane Hour
No details at time of going to press as Marion is currently on holidays

    18:00 – 19:00 Need a lift?
Drive home to some Elevator music.

19:00 - 22:00 –Extra time with George Hamilton
A mixture of sport and edited highlights of previous Hamilton Scores programmes. Got to be worth a Mexican wave or two.

    22:00 - music

    Looks plausible to me.

There's a hole in your schedule between 16:00 and 17:45. Can I suggest a reprise of the "Best of AA Roadwatch". Let's face it, the "usual build up along the Rock Road" is as relevant a piece of information now as it was then.

You never know. The inimitable Hugo might be persuaded to fill that slot with a daily programme of poetry and prose devoted to his hero, the silver-haired Terry Wogan impressionist and Lotto wheel maestro Marty.

Just wondering though, would an hour and three-quarter slot be sufficient .

    (btw, excellent OP :D)

I agree. Why is slow moving traffic, heavy traffic and usual build up of traffic deemed to be newsworthy in Ireland? Let's face it - it's a small country with no really bad traffic jams. Also, if traffic is slow on Con Colbert Road, what's the alternative? I've been driving in to Dublin city centre now for 20 years and I can honestly say that I have never de-toured as a result of information on an AA Roadwatch update. I certainly believe that the reports have no place on either Radio 1 or Lyric FM.
