Well how did we all do ??

After doing my sums im up around 300-350 (not including 12 hours on the beer on Tueday :D )

My bigger bets came in for me, ie Sir Des Champs, Simonsig, Sprinter Sacre

Didnt have much luck in the handicaps this year.

    I won.

Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig, Bobs Worth, Finian's Rainbow and Big Bucks got me the money.

Hurricane Fly and Long Run only major losers.

Tried not backing many handicaps this year.

    down 200.
what annoys me is my strategy is all over the camp. if i have a 5er on a horse( son of flicka) he wins .if i have 100 on a horse (pearl swan and crystal bonus) they are not even placed.
had 50 on zarkandar ,25 on vendor,25 on join together,30 on sonofvic, boston bob(fuming about the ride).

had winners with sprinter sacre and simonsig ,riverside and sunnyhill boy but gave it all back to the bookie.

had choc thornton to be top jockey w/o ruby and he didnt have a winner.
i really thought alan king had some nice horses this week.

all in all i had a shocker and ive nobody to blame except myself................. and ruby and paul nicholls.

Made a ton of cash on Wednesday, all the other days were a mixture of ups and downs.

Would have made a nice chunk if Hurricane Fly came in but ended the week about even thanks to my antepost bets on HF!

Good Cheltenham, but could have been a great one. Up overall. 6 winners. 10 bets came second and only had 2 of those each way. 2 big bets, one on sacre and then gave it all back on the fly. Have to say I'm wrecked after the week, but can't wait for next year already. Close things were albertas, Hisaabaat, giant bolster, voler, thanks for that.

Best 4 days of d year tho. Also have decided to take the 7-1 on the fly for next year!

    The week of my life!

Cinders and Ashes, Sprinter Sacre (had him from 8's down), SS and Cue card forecast, Quevega, Hunt ball, Simonsig, Sir De Champs, Riverside theater (35/1 double ante post), Big Bucks, Synchronised (20/1 Ap) and Salisify. Had Big Bucks and Quevega in a big double and those two along with Sprinter Sacre were some of my biggest bets ever.

All of my lays lost apart from Finians Rainbow. Up a small bit from that aspect.

Had a few lowlights too. Hurricane Fly let down an awful lot of my multiples. I was strong on Boston Bob ante post also. The worst part of the week for me though was New years eve in the bumper. I had him at 20's AP, and he was just too heartless to stick his head in front despite cruising up.

Anyway, I couldn't be negative. I'll never ever have a week like that again. I think I might finally have the cash spare to buy my first car :)

Wow - that was some week for you. Fair play and delighted to see someone take a nice chunk from d bookies. Incredible set of results. Tho happy that new years even didn't get up as was on champagne - still can't see how he beat new years.

Down about €80, all Long Run.
Could be worse though - could be Binocular Champion Hurdle day 2009..........

I always get massive enjoyment from antepost bets anyway, from the research, the striking of the bet, to the ups and downs on the way to the big day. AP on C'ham is my absolute most favourite pasttime in the world.

Came out about even, so saving it for Punchestown.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,369 ✭✭✭UnitedIrishman

About even which is absolutely miraculous given my first day. Had a sizeable punt of Hurricane Fly and after that I was chasing losses. Luckily days two and three were in my favour. Sir Des Champs and Riverside Theatre got me back in profit but spunked the profit away on silly handicaps I had no real interest in.

But, happy enough to come out the other side of it even enough. Tuesday night was grim from a betting perspective!

Had biggish bets on SS and BB, had them doubled in two betting office dockets since last Friday and had taken 1/2 on BB. Had SS at 2.04 on betfair and BB at 1.64/1.63 on Tuesday evening. Don't think I would have lumped on so much after the drift set in tbh, I'll never know though. Didn't take any time off work so they were my only bets before today except for €20 on Grand Cruz.

Had a bit on Boston Bob today against my better judgement but recouped that on Synchronised, Synchronised also covered my Luck 15 and small e/w accum, treble the odds for one winner is decent enough at 8/1.

up 250-300 thanks to synchronised and salsify

broke even first day thanks to hunt ball
broke even thurs thanks to riverside
wed was bad with places horses all day though i did
some of them ew but still only dropped around 60

biggest bet for me was the hurricane quev double (way too confident)
    and next was sizing europe
went for it yesterday with 20 on both the first two mentioned (11s+7s)

i was sure at the start of the weeke that the money i would have
won on the fly quevega double would just keep me ticking over
for the rest of the week so delighted how it worked out

my big regret was not taking off gold cup day or even the week
first time ever working during gc day even if i was finished by 2.30

Won two pub busters and waiting for results for the Attheraces buster. The winning horses picked were Countrywide Flame 33/1[nap],Brindisi Breeze7/1,Synchronised 8/1,Salsify7/1.Over the four days I picked 16 winners in the busters.I layed Hurricane Fly,Scotsirish,Kauto Star and Long Run and dodged Quovega and Big Bucks.Got placepot twice on thursday and yesterday four times. Not including all win bets.No doubles,no trebles.yankees, heinz or any other weird bets. The one downer is the war office is back tomorrow.Finished 5th of 17,000 entries with Attheraces with 2 winners I changed my original list[you bollocks].????????????????????????????????????????????????

Was severly hamstrung by the lack of phone signal, all my betting money was tied up online and I only had £400 to do me for spending for three days and all I could do was small bets to ensure I had spending money:mad:

I managed to get away with spending £150 over there for three days for drinking eating and betting and this also included my £40 on a taxi from Cardiff, because on Tuesday morning we were stuck in Dublin for 4 hours and ended up landing in Cardiff instead of Bristol so we had to get a taxi to see Sprinter

Wed, Thurs and Fri I was betting online and I was down about €70 overall there, Grands Crus, Sizing Europe and Hurricane Fly carried most of my money and Grands Crus cost me my €110 double with Simonsig and my €20 @ 80/1, all favs to place on the day, he was fourth and all other favs placed or better. I had €50 Simonsig doubles with Hurricane and Sizing.

Two kicks in the nuts I walked over to back Une Artist and talked myself out of it as I though he must be crap if Gerghty thought Soliwery was a better horse so I went with Edeymi and I had €100 in my hand to put on Riverside Theatre and convinced myself he would bounce when I was next in line at the bookies and did €10 ew on Albertas instead.

Sick as a pig, it could have been a great festival for me but turned out to be my worst one in the last 5 years since I started watching racing.

From reading all these posts so far I see the majority (to which I firmly belong!) are not posting on this thread! But, for the sake of it I'm down bigtime!
Went over for Tuesday's racing - had £500 on Hurricane and also lost every other bet!
Group I was with were so broke that we couldn't even go to the racing on Wednesday so ended up watching racing from a pub in Bristol!
Came home on Wednesday night and Thursday's and Friday's betting wasn't much better but not as bad!
Overall, probably down about €1200 betting wise but still had a good time and still can't wait for next year!!

Had a good Cheltenham , Picked up placepot on Tuesday only 86 euro but got it yesterday 627 for a tenner investment. It's a great bet and scraped home with a fourth in the last race which makes it even better :D

A good enough week in the end, i go the festival with my brother and we share bets on each race. A lot of close shaves this year, but Ubi Ace at 40/1, and with banging in the last race for the 3rd year in a row with my brother going for Belvalo at 22/1. Simonseg at the pp special price of 5/1 and Brindici Breeze..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,866 ✭✭✭Panrich

Almost back to parity for the week on the last day bar a few quid (~€30), so no complaints especially after Tuesday. I hit the crossbar a few times too but really enjoyed the racing and think we saw some really promising novices.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,474 ✭✭✭longshotvalue

It went ok, apart from one major blip redface.gif..

2 of us go to cheltenham and split our bets on each race, it reduces variance and has worked well the last 5 years.

Day 1 wasnt great, BattleGroup place at 40/1 and Alasi placed at 20, our only collection
Day 2 TeaforThree and the class 5/1 offer on paddy power about Simonsig started the day well. This day was going well until i decided that the 14/1 about my tip from the day before Son of Flica was too short and didnt back itahhhhhhh.GIF. I had picked it the night before at 40, and prefer when at the festival to back on course as its more fun. Gutted wouldnt describe it, but it didnt last long as I had a look at the next race and decided if Un Artiste was bigger than 16/1 id go for that seeing decent french form and had a go in a Grade 1., my jaw dropped when it was 40/1 and backed it.. Needless to say we were the only ones cheeringbiggrin.gif
Day 3 Maybe the first completely blank day in cheltenham since we started going 5 years ago.. Nearly saved by Albertas Run. A Side note an antepost bet of Riverside Theatre at 13.0 just put me in profit for all my antepost bets.. A last minute change of mind away from Cape Tribulation for my brother (again the price had gone), tought us a lesson along with yesterdays Son of Flicca debacle..
Day 4 We both fancied Brindisi Breeze and got him at 10/1, kind of think Boston Bob is a lot better long term prospect tough. I hit the goalpost on 3 races in a row with Chapoturgon win 2nd, Art Professor 50/1 EW 5th, and Kind Edmund 100/1 5th (along with Oiseau De Nuit falling when going well 3 out), but for the 3rd year in a row we got the winner of the last, my brother fancied Belvano and PC gave him an unbelievable ride to put us up for the festival. We have got Pigeon Island/Oiseau De Nuit, and now Belvano in this in a row.

Points wise we ended up 24 points which is grand staking a combined 4 points a race (1pt EW or 2 pt Win) and the 5th profitable festival in a row, but one of these years the longshots wont go in...

Brilliant day Tuesday. 4 winners 2 seconds and a 4th from nine bets. Then my internet died on Wednesday and was coming and going for the next three days so I kept missing stuff. Strangly enough its been perfect since Friday evening :-S.
Made 152 profit for the week but it could have been much better. Thinking of suing Vodafone for loss of earnings :@.
