Claire Santry's blog noted this today:

The National Archives have scanned the calendar of will and grant books as pdfs. So far they've only done 1923-1949 but it's all indexed for each year since 1858, so presumably they will eventually be all there!!

    *very exciting*

I went straight to the NA website and starting looking for the new records.
I’ve always found their website really difficult to navigate and I’m sorry to say the fancy new design hasn’t improved it.

I gave up looking after a few mins.

    Then I saw this:

Warning - the pdfs are huge. I downloaded a sample and it's 40mb.

thanks for that - I usually check Claire's blog, but didn't see this.

    found my g-father's probate..

40mb is nothing :) .. try ADM175 Coastguard files from NA Kew - some are over 500Mb!

Click on the year of interest - then look back up the screen for a link simililar to this :

Where do you get the full will and how much does it cost?

The National Archives can provide a copy of the will if it survives. I'm not sure of the cost but they will have all the details. I do know you can only pay by Euro cheque drawn on an Irish bank or cash.

NB: Though they do not yet have the calendars for 1858-1922 online, they will eventually. In many cases, especially for Dublin, pre-1922 original wills were destroyed in the Four Courts fire and the details on the calendar will be all that survives.

Yeah, Claire's blog outlines that the LDS have gotten a contract from the NAI to index the 1858-1922 calendars

Just noticed that 1981 goes straight from Fleming to Lacey.

The access to the index seems to be gone it just says "item" where the linky used to be for each calendar year.

I've been looking at various 20th century calendars today. Coming to the conclusion that I'm going to have to download them all and keep on my pc. Am I mad? I've got fast broadband...

I downloaded them all, too. Easiest way to search them without missing a year. :)
