Water treatment grant, too late?

Just mid move into a new house, it was a bank repo and had been empty for a few years. It is in a high iron area and there had been a water treatment system in place, but most of the components were either missing or rusted beyond use.

I had a guy from the company who had supplied the system out and he confirmed that it would need pretty much a fresh install and quoted €1600. Foolishly I bit the bullet and proceeded without realising that there are grants available for this kind of thing.

So I have some questions now.

1 - would a grant have covered what I was doing? Essentially I repaired an existing installation rather than installed a new system. It cost much the same due to the missing/damaged parts, but it was still an existing system.

2 - if I could have got a grant, would it have likely been for a higher priced system? I heard that a neighbour got a grant of about €1500 for his system but he initially paid about €4500.

3 - as the title says, is it too late? The documents state that the grant must be approved before the work commences. So even if I did qualify, has the ship sailed, or is there any leeway given if I can show evidence from the installer of what condition the system was in previously etc?

    Thanks for any info.

I wasn't aware you could get a grant for a water softner!!

Who do you get it off?

Form says Donegal County Council "grant for the provision or necessary improvement of an individual water supply to a house"

Thats not a grant for water treatment, its for a well and associated pumps etc.

    Ahh.

I was misinformed then. One of the neighbours said he got the grant towards his filter system but he must have done the whole well dig and pump installation at the same time and got his wires crossed.
