I bought from them a few times, their weekly specials are amazing, I usually buy a few and fill the freezer. I don't actually eat meat (well I eat Chicken) but everyone else does in the house and no complaints!

Meat is the sort of item that I would prefer to pick out myself in a butchers shop.

But thats a good online discount none the less.

Thanks Op for the link but
No Weights on their meat packs = bargains?

I can get Steak pack they describe for €55 easy enough...

The €20 deal is very good even with a €5 delivery charge, the 20% off nearly cancels it out.

Is the meat delivered in some kind of frozen boxes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,404 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

Prob Polystyrene boxes with disposable Ice packs in them.

This offer is still on, 20% off, pretty good if you sign up on their homepage. Did many of you order? what did you think of the meat?

Just curious as normally I wouldn't buy meat online unless I did a tesco shop and might get a bit but I was impressed mainly with quality and the how easy it was.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,002 ✭✭✭Cionád

I used to buy from their Artane store when I lived nearby. Good quality stuff and good prices too. :)

Got a bit of stuff from them. Good stuff at a decent price

I live on their chicken fillets, usually pick up the 10-pack in store and freeze at home. The meatballs are good too. They also have trays of 24 cans of coke and 7up for €10 in store.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60 ✭✭Clementine2010

Pity they don't do the Diet Coke on their website thats great value, I buy at least two cans a day at €1 each.... I know not good for me!

I got their weekly special last week, got two chickens packaged together and opened them to cook them the morning of the best before date and the smell off them was disgusting, I had to throw the two of them out. I emailed them yesterday to tell them about it but still no reply.

Only for that I would have ordered from them again because the rest of the meat was good quality. That and the fact their meat is Irish.

Tesco fillet steak is 31.99/kilo, & this is 37/kilo.

    Please don't say

    a) you can tell the difference
    b) the difference is worth it

Well Tesco doesn't have a great reputation for steak.

    Tesco has:

    a) Economies of scale.
    b) Immense purchasing power.

Their chicken isn't Irish for the most part. They are fairly open about that fact. Apparently its cheaper to buy foreign chicken as most Irish farmers ship their chicken abroad.
As for the smell, I've gotten that a few times. They (and other butchers) say that its from the preservative process when packing, the gas they use. But it really does smell and I've thrown out stuff in the past cause of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭Chriscl1

Preservatives my arse! It's from when the chicken meat hasn't been kept at the correct temp and it starts sweating and the meat turns sour. Lots of butchers normally wash the chicken meat when it starts sweating but once it's been packed and shelved there is nowt they can do then.

If you scroll down to chicken it says "Our primary supplier of chicken is Co-op Poultry, Cootehill, Co Cavan"

I pesumed this meant Irish chicken when I read it first but maybe not.

It's bad form too that they haven't even emailed me back.

Say it to them on their FB and I'm sure you'll get a quick reply! ;)

I've bought off them a few times and have had no probs - they even put some bones in for my dog when I chanced it and asked them! That said, I haven't got any chicken off them yet as I can get it cheaper in my local butcher.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭bazwaldo

Their chicken fillets are not Irish (Dutch I think) whereas their whole chickens are. There was a long thread on here about the place a few months back if you want to look. Their owner responded too.

I got the €20 special last week with the two chickens included and they were perfect. I probably had them at home for two or three days before cooking them. Can't remember how many days before expiry they were.

100% sure on a blind test fillet steak cooked correctly you would never tell the difference

I have to wonder if the people complaining about Tesco steak have ever actually eaten it, or if their granny's boyfriend from the War heard a fella from around the corner mention that his aunt had it once, and maybe it wasn't the best.

I've had fillet steak from various stores in Cork for years now, and 90% of the time it's been great; with the remaining 10% split between better-than-great, and not-so-great. I'd say I've only ever had 2 or 3 actually bad steaks, and sure you'll get that anywhere.

And yes, I do buy steak from other places occasionally. It's not noticeably different.

I got the month of roasts and got the Loin of Beef, hich was Tough, Tasteless and Dissapointing particuarily when i had guests over,

The response from the company was also dissapointing, took 3 emails to get a reply ,

and the owner eventually said he was in touch with his supplier and they had no problems with the batch of meat.

Actually felt let down , but one thing is for sure i will not be buying of them again, mainly for there POOR MEAT but also poor Customer Service.

Faolteam, as the owner of Dublin Meat Company i felt that I must respond to your post. I have no problem with you giving your opinion about our company and or service but feel you must be honest in your post.

    I quote your email

"I have been enjoying your meat I ordered but was very let down with the Tender loin of beef that I got in the roast of month it was tasteless and tough bit embarrassing as we had people over for dinner"

If you have been enjoying the meat you ordered how can you say that our meat is "poor" ?

Re the "tenderloin of beef", it is in fact an eye of the round roast. As was mentioned by Melendez, due to the lack of fat content in this roast this can be dry at times. As you are a chef I would have felt you where aware of this.
The Sunday Roast pack is one of our most popular packs and we have never had one complaint re the quality of the meat.

As is policy we got back to our supplier with batch numbers etc which is what caused the delay in responding which I apologies again for.

As I said earlier we welcome all comments, good and bad about our service but feel they should be represented from both sides.

As a Member of Boards .ie, I will inform my other members to be aware if there is a product or item that i am not satisfied with so they will not share the same problem, it is then up to them if they want to take the plunge.

The eye of the round roast tender loin whatever it was , that Meat product that i received from your company was Poor, lets not go there, that was a fact, if i had received this item from a supplier i would not order it again ,

How would you feel if you had guests around and had paid for a product that was poor.??

Fillet steak has no fat but is quite tasty,

i did email you and it took a while for a reply after another 3 emails which you eventually answered about getting touch with a supplier about batch numbers????.

I then emailed your company giving my reply but you refused to answer my reply i can only presume that you were worried you were going to have to give me some refund, which i never stated.

I was the Customer here and i was unhappy with your Product this is were it ends.

this is a bit of ridiculous argument. I go to my mothers most sundays for her roast meal. She has been going to the same butcher for the last 25 years and unfortunately every now and then, you get a piece of meat that isnt quite up to scratch, that is a little tougher and less flavoursome than the rest. Its always a topic of discussion, but really there is relatively little that you can do about it.

Its an unfortunate occurance, but it happens to every butcher in the country.

Unless you buy better quality cuts of meat. i.e. bone in rib roast. Although more expensive, its a far higher quality roasting cut, that can be either slow cooked for four hours + or done within the usual time frame.

I think the OP has been more than fair with the poster in this respect. I think they may have misjudged the cut of meat and cooked it the wrong way (or didnt hide it in enough gravy! :D)

Pity the 20% offer is over. I had read that the offer was on til the end of May so was in no rush to order. Have just read that you would have needed to get the voucher code in March to avail of the 20% off. Pity as I would have loved to try it as I like to try out different butchers and this would have been a big incentive to buy from the company. Ahh well..... disappointed customer to be(no more!)

    Hi Melendez

It look to me as its the same as what we call sirloin. In the UK sirloin is generally rump steak. They cut the rumps differently in the UK into different cuts but we generally cut the full rump into sirloin steaks. We sell 2 sirloin steak for E11 (c. 800g) and I feel they would be most similar to the cut you tried.
    I hope this helps.

FWIW and as an alternative experience from a customer, I bought a selection of meats using this offer a few weeks ago and I was hugely impressed with everything, from the service, to the quality of the various meats I bought; and I would highly recommend them. In fact I have already recommended them to my colleagues in work and my family.

This one persons opinion should be taken with a pinch of salt IMO.

And for clarity I obviously have absolutely no connection to these guys apart from being a thoroughly satisfied customer.
