Does one of the 1000 richest people have Down's Syndrome?
    If so, that person.

I've read a book which was co-written by the Dalai Lama and a psychologist. The psychologist had a male patient who was extremely rich, however his marriage broke down. Resulting in him being desperately unhappy and needing therapy with the psych.
After months of therapy the man realised he didn't gain any happiness from the fortunes he had amassed, but that happiness came from within, from doing things to help others; that was where he gained true peace and happiness.

Serious answer I would say Dalai Lama.

Really serious answer, I wrote about it in another thread how its not money or toys that brings us happiness but its what money makes us feel that makes us happy. For humans the most important feelings are freedom and security.

True freedom cannot be achieved till you're bound by material things because you're happiness is connected to something that could go away at any given moment.
Like the quote in Fight Club, "It's only after we've lost everything that we are free to do anything". Its only when we learn to truly give up our attraction to the material riches in this world and free our minds of all the things that bound us and control us, only then can we experience true freedom and only then can we experience true control over ourselves which is what brings the security. Once a person has conquered these two mountains, then the person will attain the bliss that no calamity in this world can take away from him.

You can have money one day and the next day maybe an earthquake, tsunami, market collapse, asteroid, anything could hit you and you'll find yourself with absolutely nothing.
Except for what's in your mind. As long as your mind is free, you are truly free!

The local farmer is the happiest man in the world. Bundling Bales of hay onto his trector and smelling the lovely clean air with a hay straw in his mouth.

Can't imagine the Dalai Lama being all that happy considering the suffering his fellow Buddhists have been through courtesy of the Chinese military... but maybe I'm just being a downer :/

Lovely answer, but way too intellectual, considering the audience!

    Oddly enough, they do.

I've always felt there was a strange sense of acceptance with those kids: where as the rest of us were pining for what we could never have, they are just happy with what they had. No-one Carpes Deim like they do.

A lesson to be learnt, perhaps?

I have regular-ish contact with a 9 year old with DS and every time we have a great chat. We originally bonded because he noticed my hearing aid was exactly the same as his. Happiest little fecker on the planet, I'm convinced of it.

Probably the Dalai Lama, why wouldn't you be happy if you are crazy enough to believe that you're the reincarnated head of a loony cult
