I bought a record of someone on ebay. However after waiting 3 weeks and sign of it i emailed the seller (i had to email him twice to get an answer) The seller replied and said that the record was a limited offer and he couldnt get it from the distrubitors and refunded my money. Is a seller allowed to sell an item he doesn't actually have yet? So what feedback should i leave?

    Neutral :
'' Seller unable to complete transaction and I received a full refund ''

    Negative
    He messed you around

I would just leave a neutral to be honest. He didn't intentionally mess you around.

But i believe that if a seller puts an item up on ebay for action/buy it now they should have the item in their possession, i'm fairly sure it's in ebays rules

You may not have heard of dropshipping , but it is used on eBay :

Drop shipping is a supply chain management technique in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock, but instead transfers customer orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer

This is completely different going by the item description

+1. everybody should post links. It is far clear to spot scams.

He could be lying. If the OP got it at a good price I would be very suspicious.

I got told a seller made a mistake and did not have my item, only to see him offer the exact same item a few days later, this was concert tickets with the seat numbers called out. I got them at a fairly good price and no doubt he thought he could do better.

it has happened to me before where i have listed 5 items only to discover i only had 4 of them, its embarrasing as a seller and must be frustrating for the buyer.

the fact that he refunded you in full means you are no worse off than you were so maybe not positive but negative would be harsh.

Ebay call dropshipping 'product sourcing' and it is allowed.

On other forums people mention that you should always have 1-2 of the item in stock which you are dropselling, to stop the problem the OP had.
