1999 Avensis Locks

Have a 1999 1.6 Avensis. Central locking is working fine on the remote but only for the back doors. Up until last week only the passenger side wouldn't lock with remote which you could live with locking manually by leaning over before you get out. But now the driver side has stopped locking. Seems to lock ok with the key.

Question is from a quick look inside the panel are the lock actuators built into the lock or are the separate? Are the known to give trouble? Easy to replace? Looks fiddly with the electric window parts in the way. Any advice appreciated.

First thing I would check is has there been a break-in attempt on either of the front doors where the cables going from the door to the engine have been cut by hacksaw, this is common.

If you try to engage the central locking by pressing the lock button on the actual drivers door itself does that work?
