    Hi All

Bit of a mixed bag but I'd appreciate it if anybody could give their opinions/experiences on the following venues for Civil Ceremony & reception at:
    • Trim Castle Hotel
    • Finnstown House
    • The Millhouse in Slane
Also, being new to this type of thing and practically never haggled properly before, has anybody had any luck in negotiating on the package prices or incuded any extra's etc at these venues?? Will certainly try to knock something off but would hate to end up paying full price when it's possible to get something off the final price to spend on other bits! :D

    Thanks in advance!

    Finnstown is amazing.
    The food,the service,the rooms,the grounds.

I looked at Trim castle when I was looking for wedding venues and it just did nothing for me.

Thank Moonbeam. We had a drive up to Finnstown last weekend and like you we thought it was lovely.

We called into Trim Castle a few weeks back too and I wasn't sure if I was missing something or not as we didn't feel anything for it either but we've had so many recommendations for the place that we thought we must have missed something!

    I like them all but would rate them thus;

    1. Millhouse - this is the most 'unique' and less 'hotelly' of the three and I like the grounds and permanent marquee they have. I would say it would suit a civil ceremony quite well in the marquee or outside (weather permitting)

    2. Finnstown - it's a nice place and the gardens are lovelyy. the function room is good but nothing amazing

    3. Trim Castle - The most 'hotelly' but a nice modern hotel with alot of space

I was at a wedding in Trim Castle. Average sums it up. Average food, average function room, average rooms. Nothing special about it at all, it wouldn't stand out as a special venue for a wedding. Very much conveyer belt.

Trim Castle Hotel: Location is great but other than that its ok.
Finnstown House: Dont know this one
The Millhouse in Slane: Looks great but the outside toilets stunk to high hell.

Not much if any accommodation in the Millhouse as far as I know

I liked the look of Millhouse and wanted to check it out originally, just happened to be far for us.
We did take a look at Finnstown, and personally didn't like it too much. It was fab outside but inside looked quite dated, but that's just me.

    Thank you all.

One place I forgot to mention, Dunboyne Castle - does anybody have experiences, the food in particular?

Not eaten there but its a fine big room for a wedding and the hotel seems nice and modern.
Seeing as you are considering the Millhouse have you also considered Glebe house or Darver Castle?

Darver Castle looks fab, good package too - thanks Sweetie!

Dunboyne Castle food was great, portion not too big and perfectly cooked. No choice on that particular menu, Carton House would be something similar but the food would be a higher standard and the house and grounds are nicer. They also do a BBQ the day after the Saturday wedding and its gorgeous :)

Dunboyne Castle is very nice but they do tend to run multiple functions at the same time. Never 2 wedding as far as I know but on the same night thy might have a wedding, debs and night club going. They do a good job of keeping it all separate but its worth knowing if your considering it.

We toured Darver and personally really didn't like it. Heard bad reviews for food and we didn't like the accommodation.

Got married in Dunboyne Castle, civil ceremony, and was very impressed. the food was great - typical wedding food but they were very accommodating for allergies. All good but yes they can have two events on the same - the night before mine there was a debs and a wedding but I never saw the parties cross each other - the wedding party are in a separate wing for lack of a better term keep it private.

Was also at a wedding at Glebe house which someone mentioned above - fab - it was so beautiful the only down side was no accommodation for guests so they would need to get a taxi/ bus back to their hotel but you have the entire house to yourselves

I think darver and glebe both have their issues with accommodation but they are reasonably priced and the function rooms in both are really nice, especially glebe.
