Honda Civic, Rear Tyre inner wall wear

    Hello All,

    I drive a 01 Civic 1.6 with 155K miles.
Yesterday while checking brake pad thickness, I noticed on both my rear two tyres that the inside of both was badly worn in comparision to the rest of the tyre as evidenced by the attached pictures.
Only maintainance in the past besides brake pads was replacement of the drop links about two years ago as they were worn out.
I did get four wheel alinement carried out last November after changing the front suspension shock mounts and car has been driving well since.

So, does anyone have any idea whats causing this tyre wear or what I can do to stop it???

    Thanks.

Worn suspension bushes are possible but 4 wheel alignment will show if you have a toe/camber problem.

    Cheers Nissan Doctor,

I had the four wheel alignment done before Christmas adn car has been driving straight as a dye since.

Will root around underneath sometime next week with a pry bar on the bushes and see if I can feel / hear any give on the bushes. If that yields nothing, I'll see can I get the 4 wheel alignment done again.

    Cheers......

Its very possible that they made f*cked up your alignment, It could still appear to be driving straight but they may have got the toe in completely wrong on both sides of the car.
Other than that, it could be worn suspension, Previous lowering of the cars suspension or perhaps the tyres were rotated from the front of the car with some inner shoulder wear already present. Inner wear on tyres fitted to front would be more common IMO.

    Mickdw,

Car is totally origional in that no mods were ever made to it.

I was with the lads when they were doing the alignment (its a handy way of getting a good look underneath!!!!). they only made adjustments on the front wheels; no adjustments were made at the back at all. Could that still mean that toe i could be wrong?????

Tyres on the back had uniform wear on them when I fitted them; they came of a car my dad no longer uses and were fairly new too at the time (Firestone's).
Front Tyres are wearing perfectly uniform; these are new winter tyres I got fitted last November.

    Thanks for the comments

If they only adjusted the front then you didn't have 4 wheel alignment done.

You need to have the 4 wheel alighment checked by someone who knows what they are doing and knows how to use the machine to read front and rear toe, camber, thrust angles etc.....as, in my experience, the vast majority of lads doing wheel alignment don't fully understand how it works at all.

afaik 4 wheel alignment is a different beast to a full geometry check which is suggested above.

    Nissan Doctor and Sundodger5,

    Cheers for replying.

Right, I'll back to the place that done the 4 wheel alinement and see what they say.........

Would anyone know / recommend where to get a geometry check done in Galway????

    Thanks all.
