    Hi folks,

I just wanted to share my weight problem experience with all, hopfully to give some people a sign of hope!

So, to give a bit of a background of me,

Since the age of 4, I practiced martial arts through the age of 18/19, I mainly practiced Kenpo, but did alot of others for short periods of time. I also did alot of swimming and other physically demanding sports from a young age until, basically when I finished secondary school.

I was always around 15 stone, but, not a hint of fat at all, even though, my weight to height / age ratio said I was clinically over weight.... so, first point, don't listen to the "text book" descriptions.

Physically active people can weigh more than someone the same size but is not physically active as muscle is more dense then fat as we all know.

During my last couple of years in secondary school, so from 16 onwards, I got a girlfriend and a part time job, and things slowly went downhill in terms of my weight, I wasnt doing any sports at all. I went from about 15 stone to about 18 stone by the time I was 19. It was a very sensitive topic or me, I did not like talking about it with anyone, not family, girlfriend or friends. Shortly after my 19th birthday I broke up with the girlfriend and things got worse. a year later, I was 20 stone.

I am now 23, I constantly over the last few years conned myself into thinking I was a fine weight....an illusion in my head, but as I did not want to talk about it with anyone, no one offered to.

I took action on this 4 weeks ago after a very good friend of mine basically forced me to talk to him about it. I researched different diets, and have tried some half heartedly before, but sadly failed, I never did like salads...

So, I weight myself 4 weeks ago and I was 140.3 Kg which is 22.09 stone.....Yea, thats big.

Anyway, the diet I decided on is very strict and does have some slight medical side effects which are very easily managed if you keep an eye on it. The diet is Atkins. If someone was to go on atkins, please do, for your own sake, research it as much as possible before attepmting to do it.

The main issues I find are:
    Slightly hightened cholestoral
    Muscle cramps
    Bad smelling breath, BO, urine

But as I said, the main one, being cholestoral, can be easily fixed if you seek medical advice.

I got a blood sugar tester and usually it is about 4-4.3

I weight myself last night, and I have lost 17 Kg in the 4 weeks, which is nearly three stone.

I am ideally going for my goal weight of 90-95 Kg.

I should note that I have done no physical excercise other than walking the dog for 1 hour a day.

But, have just joined up to a gym since I feel comfortable once again.

I have gone from a size 46" waist to a 40" waist in trousers and jeans. I have a rake of shirts, trousers and jeans which litteraly have not fit me in more years then I care to remember, but now fit.

There is a lot of bad press around atkins, but this is mainly due to people giving their opinions on somthing they have not researched. And the age old saying of "atkins is a pure meat diet" is pure crap.

I hope this helps someone somewhere that is having a similar issue to what I have. If you have any questions at all about this, please feel free to contact me here, or if you are not comfortable posting here, PM me.

And for all the people going through somthing similar, don't be afraid to talk to someone, I have been there and know what a dark place it is. If you suppres it, it will just grow.

I wish you all the very best of luck!
