Pretty straightforward really, has anyone had any experience of the Injuries Board or would you recommend going down the solicitor route? Any pros and cons would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Search is good.

Its a fine option, and its a fine option if you don't need independent advises on what to do and that's a wonderful choice if you're happy to live with the consequences.

There is a more recent thread (can't find it) where the OP was asking about re-entering their PIAB assessment because it turned out they were still symptomatic. It wasn't clear whether they'd been legally advised as any (competent) legal adviser would have made sure to have decent medical opinion on the settling of symptoms.

Bottom line is that good lawyers are good at personal injuries and what appears quite reasonable in the heat of the moment of the offer may not appear reasonable to the lawyer who worries that may not be out of the woods yet, injury wise.

    Hey Redmal,

Pros - Experience, knowledge and familiarity with the process. Can recommend whats fair settlement etc.
Cons - Cost (Your solicitor costs will not be reimbursed through PIAB).

I believe only 22% (recall stat i read somewhere) of claims are settled for the PIB proposed settlement.

    Hope this helps.
