I've read the finish to the Gaff fight was a bit on the controversial side? She came over her opponent's glove, who was looking to touch gloves, with a hook and knocked her straight out?

Controversial is certainly the word if that happened!!

Gaff came sprinting across the cage at her, if your opponent does that I think it's hands up time not tough gloves time.

She didn't make herself look good attacking on glove touch. Hope someone pulls that on her the next fight

They had already touched gloves, so there's nothing wrong with not doing it again imo. But she should of made that clear before striking, as Maia cleary was expecting a touch. Attacking is really unsporting imo. No excuses.

Having seen a pic prom a different angle I would have to agree with you, looks like she took advantage alright.

Hate this touching gloves business. Sign of weakness. Its like an unwritten bond between both fighters that you wont hammer the opponent further if you knock them out and vice versa or break a limb on a submission. Better keeping them on edge by the non glove touch. Im always funking a non glove touch at the beginning of watching any fight.

    A sign of weakness??
It's a show of good sportsmanship. The same as shaking hands after the fight.

One thing I adore about MMA is the fact the guys (and girls) have so much respect for each other as competitors and athletes.
To touch gloves at the start of a fight (or even better, between rounds) shows that these fighters are enjoying what they do, that they are pitting everything they have against the other person and that they bear no ill will towards them.

Yes, we all like to see a heated rivalry, and *NOT* touching gloves before the fight ups the atmosphere sometimes, but seeing Gaff hit her in that fashion absolutely taints the victory in my eyes. It's almost as bad as KO'ing a fighter after giving them an undetected kick in the nuts.

Bad sportswomanship by the winner. If Palhares did that in the UFC there would be uproar.

When is CageWarriors coming to Dublin??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,737 ✭✭✭Hococop

im sorry but ive a problem with the whole touching gloves incident that happened, in different forums alot of people say maia should have been defending herself, why do i get the feeling if it was something like gsp and conduit and conduit caught gsp out like this there would be total war over it.

i dont mind people not touching gloves when the fight starts but it seems like sheila never gave any indication she did not want to touch gloves

Quite the opposite, it looks like Gaff actually faked the glove touch then sucker punched Maia.

well that's just a poor display of sportsmanship but i remember a few different website comments are trying to say maia should have been defending herself, again as i said earlier if it was gsp that got caught out there would be total war

JESSE TAYLOR has put pen to paper on a three-fight contract with Cage Warriors and his term with the organisation will start with a bang next month.

Taylor, a member of the renowned Team Quest camp, will challenge for the CWFC welterweight title against current champion Gael Grimaud in the main event at CWFC Fight Night 6 in Bahrain on May 3.

Cage Warriors Fight Night 4 Dubai - Mike Hayes v. Andreas Kraniotakes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 435 ✭✭SevereMMA

Cathal Pendred "I deserve to be the champion.. Grimaud's record is fake!"
Irishman Cathal Pendred notched up an impressive victory over tough UFC and PRIDE veteran David Bielkheden earlier this month in The Helix, Dublin at Cage Warriors 47.

"The Punisher" Pendred controlled most of the fight for the first 2 rounds, however in the third round, Bielkheden rocked Cathal and had him in trouble but the Irishman exploded up to his feet as the home town fans sang "You'll never beat the Irish".

The SBG man secured another takedown late in the third and picked up an impressive unanimous decision, both out wrestling and out striking the seasoned veteran of 28 fights.

Now he is looking towards Cage Warriors gold, and in his way is 15-5 Frenchman Gael Grimaud.

"I think I deserve to be the champion more than Gael Grimaud does, I have more fights and wins with Cage Warriors." said Pendred

24 year old Pendred is currently 10-2-1 in his professional career. His first loss coming in only in his second fight. Since then "The Punisher" has only lost once, a fight he took on short notice and only a week after his 3 round decision victory over Jamie Rogers at Cage Warriors 39 in 2010.

"My last fight was against a more dangerous fighter than the one he fought for his first title defense, his record is fake!"

"I say fake because more than half of his fights have taken place in France where MMA is illegal. So they fight kickboxing with grappling. There's no strikes on the ground."

"I've had fights like that and they were classed as amateur, they're not counted on my professional record."

"I'm not trying to disrespect Gael, I'm just highlighting the truth; I'm more deserving of that belt than he is and his record consists of grappling wins not pro MMA wins."

For me it was in no particular order
    - the venue & fight card running on time with no delays
    - Getting 2 see the best of Irelands pro MMA athletes
    - the crowd (most of who i presume were there 2support a mate which adds that extra bit of volume :-) )

Tommy Quinn's entrance music made Cage Warriors 47 it gave it that unique Irish touch. :)

ohh solid matchmaking, usual mass amount of PR & Press that CWFC bring to the fighters, amazing lighting rig , a well rounded mix of Irish talent, fantastic crowd and over all just a pretty **** hot professional well produced show.

You will see it all again very soon, date & venue to be announced in a week or so.

    sarco meter broken.

Most matches were scratch matches on the betting thats always a good sign for fights. Not knowing who is going to win raises the anticipation levels.
The venue made it also, i dont think there was a bad seat in the place whereas anywhere but ringside in Tallaght isnt great. Id like to se CC change their Dublin location to somewhere else.

The location was excellent. The atmosphere was electric and, bar the main event, the fights were to a very high standard. It was well organised and went off without a hitch.

I think the main event was a very high level fight between 2 excellent heavy weights who didnt just stand in the centre on the cage gassed throwing haymakers but who showed excellent stand up and grappling. however, no matter who you put on after the mcgregor fight it would have been a come down, so it was more the atmosphere of the main event , and not the standard of the main event that was the telling factor.

Personally I didn't enjoy the main event, but I can see where you're coming from. I think any fight was gonna be an anti-climax after the McGregor fight.

Nah it was a snooze fest i thought. They both fought within themselves took too few chances and only fleetingly put it all out there. Its like the thoughts of a 5 rounder and saving reserves made them both baulk. Im sure that particular fight would have been better if it was a non title 3 round fight.

I compare it to watching a championship hurling match on tv, fast, exciting, explosive (the feather weights), then switching over to watch a premiership football game, slow, boring, predictable, (the heavyweights) :-).
