I was wondering, can you insure a crewcab like transit (like that one) on normal private car insurance policy?

I have my insurance policy for my car, and I wanted to know if it's the same and I could swap my cover for such transit temporarily for few days (or weeks) or do I need complete separate commercial policy?

    Usually no.

Back when we had a commercial jeep and a car they were two separate policies due to the fact that there two different classes of vehicles. I even had problems for the insurance company to take my NCB when changing policies.

I know that is the case with vans, that I can't swap my vehicle on my policy into van.
But I was actually hoping, it's going to be different for crewcab, as it's more like a passenger vehicle than goods vehicle.

generally you cant transfer insurance between vehicles if they are in different tax classes eg. private and goods, but even if a "commercial" vehicle is taxed privately you may not be able to do it,
Only way to know is ring your insurance company and ask, because each company is different.

When I switched from commercial to a car, the insurance company disregarded NCB years I build up driving the van. Still don't know what's the logic behind this??

Logic for insurance companies is very simple - if we can rip you off under any possible excuse - we will

I actually thought it was about vehicle type (field D.3 in logbook) rather than taxation class (field J.2)
but even if a "commercial" vehicle is taxed privately you may not be able to do it,

But is crewcab classified as commercial vehicle?

Yes, it is classed as commercial as it is commercial. You cannot transfer private motor onto commercial. You will have to start a new policy.

I would only need it for few days as I was planning to take one for export, and just needed cover for time of traveling in it to destination country.

However if crewcab is classes as goods (commercial) vehicle anyway, it's not going to work for me then.
