There is a wooshing noise as I go up the gears on my 05 VW Passat. Trying to sell it and somebody mentioned the wheel bearings are going in front right wheel. Was quoted €237 to fix wheel bearings and €170 for 2 new tyres. Seeing as i'm going to sell it is there any way I can get all this done for cheaper? Its the newer 05 model 1.9TDI.

It would be easier to give a bit off the price than to fix it probably.. how much are you asking for it?

Is it an old shape (01-05) or new shape (05-10) Passat?

It's the new shape Passat, would like to get €5,500 as the it has only 100k km and in good nick.

The front bearing on the 3C Passat comes as a complete hub assembly which bolts into the hub carrier. It is expensive to buy but easy (and therefore cheap) to fit.

You shouldn't be paying any more than about €170 including fitting for a brand new genuine VW bearing in an independent garage. There are cheaper options available from aftermarket sources for the parts if you shop around.
