I hope someone can help me, I was made redundant Jan'11, I decided i wanted to upskill from retail so took a Fas course last August it ended last Friday after 28 weeks,
My question is do i have to wait for a final letter from Fás (similar to P45) or should i go to my welfare office tomorrow and sign on , and will I be making a new claim, I was on JSB before i started the course,
Do you put up a "stamp " while on a Fás course, Sorry for all these questions but I always feel silly when facing social welfare,

Im not sure about FAS course, as far as a letter or something like that goes but I was doing a CE scheme through FAS (had a p45) but you fill out the repeat claim paperwork. Although you will still be waiting as long as a new claimant.

Its a repeat claim and maybe linked to your previous jsb claim normally claims are linked if they are within 6 months...hard to say with yours as would have to see last claim and final day of fas course. Anyways... go ahead and apply for welfare payment... fas should give you a letter giving start and stop dates.... its not a P45 per se.
AFAIK you get a J contribution from FAS.
Dont worry about facing sw... everything will be fine.
Even if your claims dont link. You should qualify for jsb as you were working in 2010 and that is the governing year for claims made in 2012.

With regard waiting like a new claimant a lot of offices fast track people who have been on a fas course for payment.

I was told they would fast track it as well coming from a CE scheme, but seeing as though It was January that I went in and still waiting, I don't think thats a fast track. Good luck though, hopefully they will be on the ball where you are.

Well i went down today, and signed on, had to start a new claim...but had brought everything they needed with me, and have to say i found the person dealing with me very helpful and mannerly,
My claim should be dealt with in 4 to 5 weeks....but i am prepared...self imposed diet...
Just wanted to say thank you for all your replies...

you are perfectly entitled to go to your cwo and fill out the paperwork for the supplementary welfare allowance, I did and she had it sorted out the next day. They just subtract it from your back pay.
