Hi all, looking for a bit of advice, myself and my two sisters wanted to get away for a weekend in Nov, we were originally looking at a luxury weekend in Ireland, but have got to thinking that for the same money we could get away to Europe. Problem is, we can’t decide where to go. We have all been to London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona so looking for ideas other than those. The problem is, the airlines are in their winter schedule in November, so our options are quite limited. We would want quite a short flight, really just looking for nice shopping, a bit of night life and some nice sights to see. Any ideas on where we could go?

Amsterdam? It's a good city with plenty of shopping & good food.

ok so for a weekend break you want a direct flight...huge amount of options depending on budget. i like spain but since you mentioned you wanted somewhere different why not istanbul? direct flights with turkish from ireland. some great culture/restaurants etc...no sun though...so plan B why not dubai? with emeritus or ethiad? with until they have a sale and you will pick up a good fare..., anyhow just some thoughts...

Thanks for the great replies, the other two sisters have been to Amsterdam unfortunately, so that kind of rules that out. Have looked at Krakow and Istanbul, I’m not seeing any direct flights to Krakow and Istanbul is very expensive. Based on the flight length (we would really only have Friday to Sunday) that would rule out Dubai etc as they would just be too far. It’s such a pity the only weekend we can all go is November which is winter schedule for both Ryanair and Aer Lingus so that massively reduces our options.

I would love to go to Stockholm, Lufthansa fly direct, has anyone been there for a short weekend? Is it worth a visit?

why don't you look at where SAS flies directly from dublin...Copenhagen maybe? ..if you have a fri to sunday..what you could do if you were able would be to get an evening flight out on the thursday evening and give yourself an extra day...just a thought..

lufthansa fly via frankfurt..they have a 6pm flight out of dublin that will get you most places that evening but you will have to connect...depends if you mind two flights instead of one..

    hope thats some help..

Although it would be cold, how about Edinburgh, good shopping, great restaurants, lots to see and do, theatres, clubs etc.

Newcastle is a blast, great place to go, easy to get around, you could even pop down to Sunderland for an hour or two. IT's about the same as taken the Dart to Bray.

Aer Lingus and Ryanair both fly direct to Krakow, all year round.

I haven't checked the winter schedule but Ryanair and Aer Lingus do fly to Krakow.

I was in Budapest recently and thought it was great. It's got a good mix of shopping, culture and nightlife. Also has those Turkish baths if you want to pamper yourself.

Prague or krakow are both great for weekend breaks!

Having been to all of the cities (except Krakow) mentioned I would go for Madrid. Best nightlife in Europe, nice weather, lots of airlines fly there (EI, FR and IB). Loads of accomodation at reasonable rates and lots to do there besides the nightlife.

Yes Madrid is very good, far better than Barcelona, plenty to see in the daytime, only place I know where you can go into the local ham store and have a beer whilst there.

End of November? It'd have to be Munich!

My favourite city in world, you should get snow and the Christmas markets will be open at the end of the month.

Oh, and they serve beer by the litre....

Stockholm, though it will be cold! Great place for a weekend break and now Aer Lingus flies there as well as SAS.

I was in Amsterdam in November three years ago - buzzing.

Lausanne in Switzerland is nice, it's not too expensive, and there are lots of bigger cities within easy train distance ...

    I think Prague or Krakow.
Krakow has a great shopping hall (called cloth hall) in the centre and is about an hour from Au****ch.
    Prague is beautiful also.
What about Bratislava, very cheap and some great pubs.
    Or Edinburgh - another favourite.
