    Hi,

I got an item for sale on a popular classifieds small ads site and I've had shed loads of foreign scammers onto me.

but I have what looks to be a REAL punterhere in Irl (after googling his no and seeing info on him etc)...but he want to pay by paypal.
I'm concerned he'll turn round and say he never got the item etc, and scam the money back thru paypal........and they'll always pay the buyer back.

I cant get to meet him and do a deal for cash due to him being too far away.
What my best options not to get scammed.

    Thanks.

I sold my wifes wedding dress last year on ebay. Met a very eager and genuine purchaser. She wanted to put cash straight into my bank account which I declined. bear in mind I never met her or she didnt even come to see the dress.

I insisted on Paypal more for her security than mine. As this was my first time selling, Paypal actually held onto the money for a week or two until the purchaser says they are happy.

    I knew I was genuine...lol

Turns out she was very genuine, met her in a bus station and handed the dress to her and all good. She was just very eager.

That would be the best option from a seller's point of view, though completely unsecured from the buyer's.

Paypal and registered post, i've been stung a few times with guys saying they never got the item.

registered post is the only way to go and Paypal will fully cover as will the Postal Insurance that comes with registering just make sure you tell them the value

nowadays i register everything outside of the UK and Ireland and sometimes if its expensive i'll register it here too.

i had a packet go missing between Cork and Limerick before, An Post are a complete shambles and they are in no way held accountable for missing post, as far as i'm aware Royal Mail in the UK are liable for 50 or 75 pounds if a piece of standard mail goes missing now that an incentive to make sure it gets delivered An Post have nothing like this i've filled in numerous online enquiry forms and have never so much as gotten an acknowledgment mail back from them

Re the registered post issue, it can get a bit murky - for example, if you bought an item and didnt recieve it, the seller could list a tracking number with paypal, but it may not necessarily be the one he used to send your parcel - and there would be no way of telling, as names and addresses wont show up on An Posts tracking service - so if you are posting registered, back it up with a Certificate of Postage, its free and will have both parties names and addresses on it, and will be stamped by the post office. Its a good thing to have as back up just in case.

I saw something similar on adverts thread.

Dispute with paypal sell posted tracking number to resolve. Paypal and buyer could see it was the wrong address hence paypal sorted it out

Paypal has many other advantage for buyers and sellers .

For instance if the item is ' not as described ' , then a buyer can easily win a claim .

So whatever you are selling on the small ads site , make sure you have described it exactly as it is .

As Royal Mail have one of the worst delivery records in the world they'll probably be bust fairly quickly. The only probalem is proving you sent it, so every package would have to go through a post office counter with receipt.

Total and Utter BS, Royal Mail have one of the worst delivery records in the world. If they were held responsible for loss of items, they'd be bust overnight.

Standard mail has no insurance in UK - sure, how could you prove if it was posted???

If you don't know what you're talking about, you shouldn't call BS on another poster's information.

Standard mail in the UK has insurance, and the max payable is equal to the price of 100 1st class stamps (£46). This is without purchasing any additional insurance.

Message changed and apology to the poster - but quite unbeliveable esp for Royal Mail

I lived there til last December and the number of items that were "lost" in mail was crazy. Particularly small packages.
