Just flicking through Irishcycling site today and I saw this article http://www.irishcycling.com/publish/news/art_6100.shtml re Caroline Ryan and her olympic qualification hopes.
I thought the oracle who knows all that is track (and has one buried in his underground lair) told me the event she is doing is not on the programme in the olmypics? did i miss something? Is she aiming to qualify in a different event?

There are 5 track events for both males and females

    Sprint
    Team Sprint
    Kieran
    Team Pursuit
    Omnium

Caroline Ryan was originally attempting to qualify in the Team pursuit, but Ireland could not put together a good enough team and that idea was abandoned some time ago

I assume she is actually attempting to qualify for the road events, not the track

Womens TT is the aim afaik

Celtic chrono at stormont is an Olympic points qualifying event and Caroline is already one of very few Irish women with a UCI ranking. A few top level performances at the right events and a bit of luck........
If it wasn't achieveable she wouldn't be going for it.

Thanks lads the article didn't make that clear at all. Seems to be a pretty late run for this but would be great to get another Irish cyclist in London.

She has 8 UCI ranking points putting her in 226th place, 1,726.92 points behind Marianne Vos!

Siobhan Horgan has 10 points in 201st place

However 30 points gets you in the top 100, and you qualify by virtue of (amongst other things) the nation's performance

Ireland are currently in 43rd place, and about the 25th European nation with 25 points, and another 5 points would have moved them up to equal 32nd place, so there does seem to be scope to move up the rankings

I presume that if she qualifies for the TT it would be on the back of qualifying for the RR, as there are no separate TT rankings that I am aware of, and that would allow her to compete in both events

So we need to get the 2 Irish girls to get some ranking points quickly and then Ireland will qualify one place?

The this one place would have to be dcided who'd go Ryan or Horgan and then that rider could bo both events Road and TT?
