I need to hire a helicopter to fly approx 120KM from south dublin. It needs to be able to take at least 3 passengers. Anyone recommend a company that is not going to charge an arm and a leg. Thanks .

Here's a few links from a recent thread, they will all charge an arm and a leg because helicopters cost a fortune to run and fly :)

    Try www.kildarehelicopters.com

    Hi Guys,

Im looking to hire a helicopter next August for my wedding to take us from the photos location to the reception. I have cleared it with the reception and they are fine about it and also have a friend with a landing pad in their yard as they used to have them landing there frequently up until a few years ago. so take off and landing at both locations wont be a problem.

I am having trouble finding a company that does this in the south east or near the south east. all the companies listed above i have emailed and either got no replies or its a service they don't provide anymore.

this is going to be a surprise for my wife to be and i know she would love it. We are based in waterford.

    Thanks in advance.

Hey, sorry I can't help you with any company names, but one thing I will say is be very careful!!... Weather is so unpredictable here in Ireland and can ground helicopter's and light aircraft in a matter of minutes. It's a great idea and if it gets you more brownie points off the new wife even better. But make sure you have a back-up plan if the pilot rings to tell you that the weather is unsafe to fly. Is the photo shoot location close enough to the reception that you could get there in a reasonable time if you were unfortunate that you couldn't fly? I'm sure someone here more into Heli's will be able to help you with regards to a company that provide this service! Good luck

thanks for the advice, ya if the helicopter does fall through, we will have the wedding car that is bringing herself from her house to the church so I have a back up plan if anything does go wrong. its not a huge distance maybe a 15 / 20 min drive from the photo shoot to the reception so it will be fine.

Ah that's grand so, once you have a back up plan it's a great idea. Good luck finding a place.

Skywest only have Piston machines as far as I know. The Robinson 44 will do the job just fine though, plus it shouldn't sting the wallet that much.

If you really wanted to do it in style with a Turbine, give Heli Services Ireland a shout. They own a beautiful Bell 407. Fantastic machine!

Your looking at 600 euros an hour for an r44 and 800 for a turbine. Return which youll get charged anyway would be around r44 2400- turbine 3200. Helis are amazing tools and good fun but there is a reason that there are only 45000 globally.
