I'm goiing to attempt to change the front pads on my Freelander 1 (2004 petrol) due to financial meltdown and was wondering if anyone happens to know, in advance of me taking the wheels off, what size mm socket or torx is needed to remove the calliper?
I don't want to take the wheels of and find I don't have the right tool. you know what they say...be prepared.
Please bear in mind I am a complete novice at this so nothing too technical please! :)
Oh and you can take the p?$$ too about having a Freelander as long as you throw in some useful tips! :D

I'm afraid you're just going to have to take off a wheel and see what type of brakes are fitted. It's not unknown for manufacturers to source their components from different suppliers.

Yeah, it's looking that way. Guess I'll have to roll my sleeves up and get at it. :D

According to RAVE and Microcat they are flanged hex headed. No size given but probably 10 or 13mm socket needed.

Sorry just seen this & yes I own a 2000 Freelander. On mine it's a 13mm socket or spanner & the job is very easy. Invest in a Haynes manual, an Aldi or Lidl set of spanners & sockets & save a fortune.

By the way, if you haven't done the job yet, it helps to tie a bit of string around the calliper so that when you swing it upwards you can stop it from getting in the way by tying it to the suspension.

Hey Discodog thanks for the tip! I did it at the weekend and you're right, it was dead easy. Mine needed a 12mm socket for the calliper and it tightens back to 27nm if that helps anyone else.
