Not really used one before. Do you have to use it with the doctor you signed up with? Or is there some list of doctors that you can use it with, or do you just ask and be accepted or not?

And if you got it in one jurisdiction but want to use it in another, say on the opposite side of the country, is there any way to do that? Or do you have to go in to get a new one, I see something about that on their site, saying apply for a new one and you can use your old one for 3 months in the new county, but who can you use it with?

Is the application process for the new card the same as the initial application that got you accepted, you have to go through the whole process again?

Do all people on jsa/jsb get medical cards?

Also the site seems to be down, can't see where the health office is for d7?

    Thanks!

You can use your medical card for up to 3 months if you are living temporarily outside your Local Health Office area. In this case, you can attend any GP in the area participating in the medical card scheme. If you are going to be away longer than 3 months, you should apply to the Local Health Office of that area, for a medical card. If you move to a different part of your own Local Health Office area, you can apply to change your doctor.

    from here http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/health/entitlement_to_health_services/medical_card.html

Is the application process for the new card the same as the initial application that got you accepted, you have to go through the whole process again?

I dont know to be honest.

Thanks for that, might try to look up what GPs are in the scheme near here and ask one of them. I am on jsa and have moved jurisdiction, last time I had a lot of trouble getting the card due to 'proof of savings' or some such, so i would be wary of just straight away applying for a new card as I may not get it, I don't know. Didn't now I could use one on the list, I read it wrong, thanks! Now to find the list! I take it I have to go in to the health office to get such a list, just have to find out where that i as the site is damaged.

hey tar. what we did was thus: decided on new doc (like picked who we wanted to go to [they need to have a medical card panel - eg they accept med card patients, they can tell you that]) and went to them, and asked to go on their panel, they said yes. we then went to the local heath board and got a form, which you take to the doc and they fill out and is returned to the health board. the health board inform your old doctors, and they transfer your medical notes to the new doc. you are then issued with a new card with your new docs details on it.

    hope this helps
