Well Clonard was fun today! First day back on the bike in six months. Rode with the bunch, accidentally attacked at about the 40km mark with a Tiernans and an Usher (sorry about that lads, was never going to happen), then got dropped. Chased back on with a group, finished with the bunch. Great ride!

Pleasure to make the acquaintances manwithaplan, hungrycol and uberwolf! Hope you're not too sore in the morning col!

Yeah great day out, fast pace on the way back. Amazed there wasn't a crash, there were some very very twitch riders there. Huge field, anyone know how many starters? Wouldn't be surprised if there were over 150 or so, there was a huge crowd in the school carpark at the start.

nasty crash in A4 race happened just in front of me, lad on outside hit a traffic island, he seemed to be ok but not sure. dont know what team he was with i was too bust avoiding his bike.

Ya i heard the thud alright, was just behind me on my left.Hope the guy is o.k. I enjoyed the race, although i found it a bit flat for me, found it hard to hold my position at the finish and ended up getting swamped. No business racing on a compact today, not when there are lads pushing 52x11 coming up to the line...............BIG LADS.Thanks to the organisers anyway, everything was well marshalled and well organised.Well done to Gav 07 on your placing by the way.

+1 on the marshalling, it was very good, lots of shrill whistle blowing and shouts of slow down coming to the roundabouts overall a well run event

I meant more of a mass crash taking out half the peleton. I didn't see/hear this one, although I nearly got taken down myself by someone braking and moving right to avoid someone shimmying down the inside of him. Was bloody close!!!

Really enjoyed this today! Well organised and marshalled with only one single bike crash in the A4s! Headwind for the 1st half and then seriously fast on the way back!
Last year was a handicap and this year a separate A4 race - like night and day in terms of enjoyment for me!
On the way home by 1.30pm too!

That was me, Swords CC. Elbows, right knee, right hip and right hand aren't talking to me. F@@king traffic island came out of no where so I either ducked into the bunch causing carnage or see how far I could fly. I don't recommend flying. Ambulance picked me up and patched me up. Stinging a bit now but on my first beer and watching the Rugby so all is ok in casa Hungrycol.

Small buckle in me new Fulcrum Zeros but otherwise bike looks ok so far. Right shifter looks well grazed but hopefully not broken.

Between crashing today and bike commuter bike being nicked yesterday maybe I need a time out! Thanks manwithaplan for the lift! No blood in the car I hope?! Nice to meet you Buffalo.

I found it the opposite in A4 - start/stop/start/stop all the way down with lots of stupid braking and weaving on a long straight road and few willing to make a race of it on the way back.

Glad to see hungrycol is ok in the other tread, I saw you lying on the road dude and it looked painful. Glad there wasn't a big pileup other than that.

I think it's safer when the speed is high and the group is lined out a bit more.

Well organised and nice weather though so thanks to Clonard CC.

Really good race today (A4). Found myself at the front heading up the climb on the way out. Thought I was almost there and manged to catch the last man in front of me just got by him on what I thought was the top... only to look up and see the flag was on the next crest up the road!!!! D'OH! :o Was caught close to the top and HR was 199 going over the top of that. Coming back was fast. Managed to stay close to the front and was in a good spot about 200m or so to the line, but had no power in the legs when I stood up to sprint, so sat up and finished in the group. :)

Jeez Hungrycol, you're having a bit of a rough time - yesterday's post in the stolen bike thread, then this. You'll be telling us you've put on weight over Lent next.

Hope you (and the bike!) are OK.

Passed you on the ground. Really hope you recover.
My only intention was to show up and get some race speed km. Crikey I got a shock at the turn in kilbeggan!
Anyway, I spent the race at the back of the bunch, moving up when people were getting dropped.
Very well run event and glad I raced.

Glad you're ok(ish) Col! It looked like a really nasty fall. I was relieved to see you walking out of the ambulance back at the Start/Finish!

You were on the outside of me Hungrycol, and, like you say, if you had tried to avoid that traffic island by ducking back inside, I would've been down. Thought you were a gonner but took a quick look back and seen you purposely curling up incase anyone else went into you, so I reckoned that was a good sign! Talked to you later and you looked sore but better than I expected. Anyway, get well soon.
First race of the season for me so was happy to finish in the top 15, plenty of loopers contesting the sprint, could've been carnage.
    70km, average speed 38.2

Yeah, I've been away travelling, got back about three weeks ago. Took the bike out for a 20km spin to make sure it still worked, then got wiped out by a chest infection. Rode out to Black Bull to marshall for our league opener, and bonked on the way home. So pretty pleased with day one of training/racing yesterday! Though I might've paid for it today.

I should also add that I went backwards through the bunch so fast at one point that kenmc asked if I was alright. So not my most consistent performance! :p

Give over, and after today's comeback blitz through the field at the end too? ;)

I've started to think of it as my signature move - go really fast up the bunch, and then go really fast back through it. Boomerang buffalo has a ring to it. :D
