A portfolio is simply a mixed bag of investments. 401(k) is the US term for a personal pension fund, the equivalent of a PRSA here. It used to be called an individual retirement account (IRA) but confusion with the provos led the US media to stick with 401(k) instead.

ok now is this "portfolio" on paper or what.

and are you able to help me with the rest of my original post?

The portfolio is the name given to the collection of all your investments. It isn't anything that's tangible of itself.
Check out the stickies on this forum - there's a glossary of terms and a list of useful links

I don't understand why you have repeated your opening post.

What I would say is this. Spend some time trawling through investopedia.com

You will get an answer to pretty much every question you have there. If you don't, ask here.

Be careful with spread betting if you are this inexperienced. That is leveraged investing you can loose more than you originally invest.

In fairness ixus made a relevant point. Why post your opening post twice. If you need help ask for it in a more humble manner especially to someone like ixus who knows more about it than you.

Trading in any form is not a game. If you want returns in investments you need to participate in vigorous research and development about possible companies that you'd like to invest in.

Factoring cost incurred in buying and selling brokerage fees and tax €500 is not enough only if you want to buy penny stocks. If so diversify your portfolio as they're very risky.

You also need to know what sort of companies you want to invest in oil and gas energy or commodities.

In my opinion you've not yet reached the trading stage.

Have a good read on investopedia know the basics then learn the fundamentals.
