I've had nasal and sinus problems for a good while now so recently my gp referred me to an ENT specialist as i feel like crap, can anyone tell me what kind of examination is done of the nasal cavitiy, i dont want to walk in, and pay what is almost short of €200, just to be told to get a nasal spray and painkillers without being looked at properly. Anyone know the procedure?

Hey, I've got a deviated septum, thats what my ENT exam found out. If your getting the camera put up your nose it a bit uncomfortable but not too bad.you get a spray that will numb it.The Doc will test your hearing with a tuning fork and have a look in your ears and throat. For €200 your probably getting the camera though surely?

I get chronic sinusitis from the sinus not being able to drain properly,I feel your pain.
I cant have the corrective surgery until I stop playing contact sports because a blow to the nose can undo the work and it's never as successful second time round.

I'm not too sure whether camera is standard procedure, although i was told i'll have to pay €250 if I am to get a CAT scan done..

I've seen several ENT over the years. Yes, most likely for your €200, he/she will take some history of your symptoms & send a camera down your nose (and true it's not that bad as you get an anesthetic spray first). From there will decide if you are a case for surgery or likely to disappoint you with a verdict of no sinus problem or one that only requires a spray. If you are like me, you've been through all the sprays. That said, and as somebody who has spent a fortune in the past few years on medical problems, try to bear in mind that the €200 you will spend may be the cost of going from feeling like crap to human again. Not dismissing that it's a lot of money but it's a very small price if you get a diagnosis. You are paying for their expertise, training and education to be able to make a diagnosis. I wish you the best of luck with your visit and hope you get a good result or at least some answers.

Well i went and he didnt use the camera, just tilted the head backwards and shone a light into my nose where he said he could see inflamation in the nasal airways, ordered cat scan to be carried out and also gave a prescription of sinus rinse and nasal spray...
