Here's what I got from somewhere on the web re. the Samsung TV model numbering scheme.
    ****************************************
The Samsung TV model can be broken down like so:
    <TYPE><REGION><SIZE><YEAR><SERIES><VARIANT>[misc details]
    Type:
    L LCD
    P Plasma
    U LED

    Region:
    A Australia
    E Europe
    N North America

    Year:
    A 2008
    B 2009
    etc...

An example, the UN55B8500 is an 8 series (500 variant) 55" LED TV in North America from 2009.
    ****************************************

The D8000 is a lovely design TV but the backlight bleed/clouding on it is horrendous! Unfortunate side effect of slim bezels
