Might pick a lab pup soon, (as per previous posts) black or brown i'm thinking for some natural consealment on duck hunt......

Anyway question is which is the better option for kids/household temperment and importantly gun training a Dog or bitch:confused:.....i have no interest in breeding pups.....

The last dog i had years ago was male and i dont think i clicked / bonded with him...:o... is there any difference to speak off?

    thanks....

it all depend on you , dog tend to be more head strong but have a proudness about them that you see in few bitches.

ive spent the last 9 years round lab trails and championships . and ive hunted with labs since i was able to leave the house on my own .

colour dont matter when out for duck either ive alway ventured to wards yellow labs .

is all you own preference . but in general there easy trained if your not going trailing. and a gud all round dog and pet .

For a gundog I would have always said that a bitch was best as I found they tend to listen and obey a lot more(and yes, I'm also thinking what ye all are thinking:D),but oddly, I've found terrier dogs to be better, fearless and a fair bit more aggressive, which probably comes in handy when he's trying to pull the head off fox twice his size:D my fella would fight a buffalo if he got the chance:eek:

It's irrelevant. Dog or bitch they have it or not. First & foremost you need a gundog. Then you need to integrate it into the family.
The trainer/ handler has to adjust their style to the dog. I do like a dog for their appearance & presence. Saying that the bitch pup i have is as brazen as I've seen but full of character.
For me the harder the dog the better. I see it as a challenge & once you get a hard dog on your side you have a serious animal at your disposal. If you don't bond & assert the alpha status though it's a waste of time.
Pick a litter & pick the pup that you take to. Not having a preference is great as you can pick from the whole lot...

I've a dog and a bitch a neither of them listen to me ;).

I got the bitch spayed at 6 months. She turnin out nice now. IMO bitches are more intelligent but a dog is more loyal companion.
