    Hi OP.

If you find yourself an affordable quote on a motor like that then I'd be very suprised.

Would you perhaps consider a little less power ?

hi, well i just got an online quote of 2300 off liberty so i would be happy enough with that or a small bit less if possible.

I was paying about €1500 as a 26 year old driving a 99 1.8 Accord. If youre happy paying that kind of money to insure a car like that at 19 then more power to you! I loved my Accord and the newer model is even more comfortable.

I wouldnt call it crazy if he can afford it and is willing to pay high tax and insurance then fair play to him I say ;).

Plus op I dont drive a diesel Accord but do have a petrol one have it two years now and still couldnt fault it.

    The diesels are great.

But it must have been serviced properly with the correct oil. Without proof of that I wouldn't buy.

The timing chains can stretch if not serviced properly as noted above. Beyond that and some problems with cracked exhaust manifolds they are a great car. I have had two of them. Both with well over 100,000 miles. Fast and efficient.

diesels can have problems, want to be careful.

I am considering getting a 2.4 type s or exec..

fek the petrol prices, can get a load of a car for 4/5k sterling.

DIesels in general or just the CDTI ?

Petrols. The 2.4 Exec is a very well spec'd car and considered bullet proof in terms of reliability.

I bought my 2.4 Type S for £3,400 and cost just under €6K landed.

Oh @OP the diesels are pretty relible but have the following points of note

    1. Intake manifold cracks (normally done under warranty)
    2. Diesel Fuel Filter - best to use genuine
    3. Only use fully synthetic 0w30 oil
    4. VSA modulator can fail
    5. Typical DMF for diesels

    etc.

Not to say they are unreliable, just these are things to check.

Thinking of buying a 2.2 accord diesel. Supposed to have issues with timing chains and cracked manifolds. something around 07.Can't afford a new one any issues with high milers .Or should I go a diesel octavia 1.9tdi

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,236 ✭✭✭Dr. Kenneth Noisewater

I know you can't afford a new one, but would you be able to bring it up to a 2008 i dtec rather than the i ctdi, manifold wasnt a problem with them, slightly tastier looking car too :D

not a bad idea they fairly saucey cause they a good bit cheaper for tax. havent taxed my car since last june and got away so far. if i do the same with accord 900 euro every 18 months is manageable.Any problems with the 08,those dual mass flywheel are the worst thing ever

Ive a 2005 petrol 2.0 S Accord (60K miles). Fantastic car and well spec'd in my opinion for the price i paid in june 5,500..

    Drive is great.

One thing that is going on me is the clutch master cylinder. (OT but anyone know the price on a repair job on this? :/)

....... cant go back to a petrol after driving a powerfull enough diesel.
Its a sad sad day for motoring when someone can come out with a statement like that.

That seems excessive, how many years no claims do you have?

I'm paying half that on a 2.0L Sir-T and i'm ever so slightly younger than you :p

Timming chain and steering rack trouble aren't unheard of either in these. When these cars go wrong they usually cost an arm and a leg to put right. Some parts are very very expensive for them.

Yeh but what does he consider a powerful enough diesel? Hopefully not a TDI.

    vrs octavia

The VRS Octavia are 170bhp the Accord model you are looking at is 140bhp you can get much more powerful diesels and petrol cars than that.

Have an Accord myself at the moment but mines petrol not to much experience with the diesel model.

just trying to keep the fuel bills down.i know you can get high powered petrols. just want the accord for the looks and suppose to be reliable

The petrol version is quicker than the diesel...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 464 ✭✭Marcin_diy

I drive 06 accord type s Petrol. never gave me a problem in last 5 years. She drinks 10L every 100km, but thats the only negative. I have 7 years plus ncb and insurance cost me 550 per year. It is 155 bhp, but not a great green light runner, hovewer once it is moving it is not easy to overtake, vtec is great.
what I heard is that petrol is better engine than diesel and it is not easy to break it if u look after your car.

That's a false economy imo. The petrol version is more than likely going to be a lot less expensive to maintain than the less reliable diesel version of the Accord.

I have a 2006 diesel Accord and generally it is very reliable. They do have common flaws like weak DMF's, cracking intake manifold and in the 2003-2005 there is a timing chain issue. That said, the manifold and timing chain have extended warranties and I have 150,000 miles on mine on the original DMF. Like most cars, if they are looked after and not driven like they're stolen, they are reliable. I do agree though, the petrol Accord has fewer 'common' issues and if you aren't doing high mileage, they are the better buy.

I have a 07 Accord iCDTI since last May. She's got north of 120,000 miles on her, and apart from a new alternator ( covered by warranty ),I've had no issues.

I think somebody mentioned it already, but just in case,TypeAccord is an excellent source of information.
