    Hi,

I just recently qualified ACA, trained through Industry, looking to make my first move post qualification, just looking to see what everyones thoughts are regarding moving into practice from industry.

I know the norm is people moving from Practice to Industry but I think its something that I'd like to do but finding it hard to see a route.

Anyone any advice on how you would do this? I mean most routes into practice are graduate ones, I'm kinda up in the air in terms of being qualified but would have no audit experience whatsoever.

    Any thoughts welcome

I just feel it would add to my experience and allow me exposure to a wider variety of industries. And by working with more accountants I might learn from them, and benefit from their experience

I don't think you would have a problem getting into practice. There are so many different areas of practice that your industry experience will surely be valued.

Would you be looking at going into a Big4 or to a small/medium sized firm?

Also make sure you do your research, like you mentioned most people move from practice to industry. Look into the reasons behind this. If you are newly qualified with no practice experience I think you might be looking at a pay drop.

I'm newly qualified but havent reaped the rewards salary wise yet so the salary issue would be be something I could deal with for another year or two.

Ideally I'd love to try for Big4 or top 10. Academics wise I would meet the requirements for Big4, strong leaving cert, and 1st in my degree and a couple of post grads, they seem to be the big issues of the recruitment process for grads in the big firms.

But like i said I'm kind of caught in the middle, I'd like to go through the professional development a large firm would put you through etc but I'm by no means entry level. Plus it would do no harm to have a big firm on the CV.
