    Hi all

I need some advice, I bought a white dress and want to dye it a strong red colour, the fabric is synthetic material, do any of ye know where I could get a dye to do this ( I was told in craft shop that because its synthetic the normal dyes wont work properly, that they only really work with natural materials).

    Thanks
    B

    Hi nihicib2

You could try purchasing in a fabric shop near you or you could try this online shop http://www.thedyeshop.ie/acatalog/Dylon_Hand_Dyes.html#a65

I've dyed clothes before and they never really turn out the colour I want them to be, but maybe that's just me!

    Good Luck

Hi ellejay, the lady in the shop said that if the material is man made/synthetic then you need a special type of dye, just ordered some so hopefully it'll work, thanks for your reply though

Also be aware that any surface stitching/bindings/trim of any sort will come up a different colour. As someone else said, bright red is very difficult, much easier to go for a colour that is only a couple of shade off white.

If the dress is polyester or viscose you will need professional dye. If you chance it with the normal dye, it will either come out pink, or red and the dye will rub off on your skin and other items....

well I dyed it last night and gave it a gentle wash this morning (as per instructions) its still not completely dry but I am happy with the results, it turned out more blood red than a vibrant red, but I knew it wouldn't come out the colour on the packet. I took a photo of the before dress and when its dry I'll take a photo of the after

    Thanks for all the advice
