Breakdown FAIR HOME?

Had a breakdown on the m7 yesterday evening about 7ish halfway between portlaois and borris-in-ossery. By the time the recovery truck came it was 8 and couldn't fix it so towed me to borris-in-ossery. Tried for public transport there eg bus or train but none at that time and wasn't in the form to stay over that night as needed to be in Tralee for 9am next evening so had to get a taxi. No taxi would drive me from there so had to get 1 from Tralee. He happened to have a towbar in the boot so he offered to tow it home so eventually he towed it home. Now the bill is 315euro for the fare home so I'm just wondering would my insurance company compensate me for some of the fare home? Any help would be appreciated

Sometimes these policies will cover the cost of getting you home. It's generally for Bus or Train use though.

You'd be a hell of a lot wiser if you called your Insurer and asked them though as policies differ from one to the other.

    No.

Fair play to the taxi driver, been a while since he pulled €315 for that little work I imagine.

    That is untrue.

You should call your insurer and discuss.

AXA state in their Breakdown Booklet
    3. Completing the Journey - If repairs cannot be completed on the same day, we
can arrange to have you and your passengers (but not hitchhikers) taken home
or to your original intended destination within Ireland. We will arrange and pay
for one of the following options, which we will decide.
a To transport you and your passengers to the intended destination, and take
your car to the nearest repairer, or nearest repairer to your home or chosen
    destination if this is closer.
b Accommodation and expenses for one night, limited to bed and breakfast
while you and your passengers are waiting for repairs to your car to be
completed. The most we will pay is €31.75 for each person and €127 in total.
c Hiring a suitable vehicle for up to 48 hours as long as this is not more than
the benefit we would have paid under the option above. We may provide
public transport for you to return to the repairer to reclaim your car after
    it is repaired.
d Any other solution which, we believe, is the most suitable to help you and
arrange for your car to be repaired and transported.

Now in saying that, you should have gotten pre approval from them and generally the MAX they will pay is €50.... generally...

Key point there "We will arrange and pay
for one of the following options, which we will decide."

Getting a €350 tow off a taxi driver I don't think would have been one of their ideas.

I pointed that out. Doesn't mean it is beyond the realms of possibility that he could get something back.

OT - I'd say that Taxi Driver has his feet up reading boards on his new iPad now. :D

Tried ringing liberty(Quinn) 4-5 times without answer after being towed by rhe recovery truck so had to decide to get a taxi home. I wasn't waiting around in a cold night until they answer so organised a taxi (which I had to get from my local taxi firm cos the ones I rang from borris-in-ossery refused because I hadn't more than 200cash on me. I no they must decide what to do but having rang them numerous times I decided to get a taxi home

Sure all you can do is try.
And it's worth any money not to be stuck in Borris in Ossory.
    Even Borris left.

I rang twice today and still waiting for them to ring me back. I have the receipt now so I'm going to photocopy it and send it to them aswell as a letter as to how I tried ringing etc etc and il see what happens. I never again want to step foot inside that town haha.

What's the excess on your policy? If it's the usual €250, then the most you will get back is €65 and you'll have a claim recorded on your policy. While the claim is only for €65 and it's only recovery they all get added to your file and you'll have to explain it when renewing, so no on-line quotes.

Breakdown claims don't effect the excess or the NCB.

Wasn't sure about the excess, knew about the NCB.

But the recovery will go down as a claim on your policy. I got a windscreen chip fixed and my renewal letter had 1 claim but full NCB.
