    Hi,

I've seen a few posts now where people have indicated they didn't like/want/enjoy/etc their job any longer, decided to quit and then sign on.

Do you actually qualify for benefits if you voluntarily give up your job?

You'll have to forgive my ignorance as I 'aint from 'round these parts' and I'm not particularly well versed in the state benefits here.

I'm posting it here because I'd much prefer for this not to degenerate into a flaming forum or a string of people stating their thoughts/rants either way, there seem to be plenty of those abound.

I'm actually genuinely curious as where I come from you only qualify for benefits (some anyway) if you're fired/ made redundant etc. (at least that's how it used to be) or end up jobless outside of your own control.

(mod's : posting this here as it seems likely to get more genuine answers, do feel free to move if it does turn into a some more akin for AH or so)

Hi Wexie, could you share your findings? I'm seeking the same information.

If you leave a job of your own accord you can be disallowed up to 9 weeks. If you are fired due to your own actions the same disallowance can apply. The deciding officer will take into account your reasons for leaving or for the dismissal. You must still satisfiy the conditions for Jobseekers by being available, fit and seeking work.
