And its going on my keyring. Any advice on what software to put in there? Should I encrypt or not - might it get seized at an airport or something? How would I go about encrypting it?

    What make/model?

Create a Truecrypt volume on it if your worried about the donkey porn being discovered.

It really depends on what you will put on it.
Stick some mp3s on there that you want to share with mates.
    Some small Linux disty?

I got one of these with free shipping, hard to go wrong really.

I'm not ashamed of the extensive donkey porn collection, some day it will be displayed alongside the Mona Lisa.

I heard there was a version of linux that acted as a bootup device for any computer, once the bootup sequence was right, what was that called again?

I have Backtrack booting off a 4GB micro-sd card, via YUMI. You have a menu-driven selection of boot options. The card seems to be always mounted readonly though, so maybe another partition would solve this, but haven't tried that. Depending on your interests, one or more live Linux CDs, ntpasswd, magicjellybean, your favourite hexeditor, an AV you can run from stick, WUBCD, a variety of data recovery SW all spring to mind.

    @StandardToaster: link fail !

You could just upload all your donkey porn to Rapidshare or something before you travel.
I doubt any portable media gets checked nowadays, people bring through laptops with 500GB HDs that could have 480GB of donkey porn encrypted.
One has to keep ones donkey porn safe you see.

It all depends on what you like to put in your 8gb flash drive
    Not a wise question.

    I use Yumi.

In fact, that whole site is a gem.

I like what you've bought OP, but I'm not a fan of exposed pins. I find the Lacie Data Keys way overpriced and again, exposed pins and lightly built.

Same for the Kingston DTSE9, lovely design, but not made from the same material as your keys!

This is what I have hanging on my keyring.

Very chunky stainless steel. Integral DataKey. Available in 4GB and 8GB.

Write speed not great, but read performance is fine, running Linux Mint etc..

Just to add, there's an Irish seller on eBay, sending them out from Dublin for €12.95 (8GB) and €9.95 (4GB). P&P inclusive, for Ireland. I'm not going to link, but should be easy to find him\her.

Its got a sliding cover for the pins which might not be immediately obvious from the photos. Also works out cheaper, its hard to beat dx, just don't expect your package quickly. :D

Some great ideas thanks, how about entertainment, are there any p&p games I can install on it or that sort of thing, or is it worth the bother?

I have one of the Corsair survivors for donkeys years now, really can't fault it. I've used it to open beer bottles as a make shift hammer and it's still going strong.

Mine came with a ten year guarantee at the time but I see they've stopped that from the looks of things.

There's nothing I would keep on it all the time though. I have access to the likes of google docs through my phone so all I really needed the stick for (at the time) was transferring files.

I use that to play all the old dos games from the usb key, works a treat.
