Is it beyond our technological ability to build houses that don't have squeaky floorboards upstairs?

    Builders, carpenters etc. comments welcome.

I have this problem on my landing and it drives me nuts. Is there actually any way the creaking and squeaking can be fixed? I have carpet on the floor and as far as I know it covers large squares of wood(?) rather than floorboards. Any suggestions??

serious answer: yes, you just use higher grade timber with less flex

AH answer: do you really want to lose some riding background noise?!

Oh no, it doesn't sound like a simple solution. Is that my only option?

try tightening the boards tighter to the joists? additional screws if necessary.

yeah they are a pain in the arse. But doors that don't close properly are just as annoying. - When you close em, they simply slip off their catches and creak every few moments as they open more and more. Can drive you crazy. :D
