.22 WMR moderator

    Hello,

    I own a CZ 452-2E ZKM in .22 WMR. I've talked to my local gun dealer who said that he sells SAK moderators which are supposed to be popular and sell for €59.00. Looking at my gun manual I believe it's already threaded for a moderator.

    As I did not tick "Silencer" on my FCA1 form, how would I go about applying for the moderator with the Garda? Would it incur any extra costs?

    The main reason behind getting a moderator is for lamping rabbits on land I have been given permission to shoot on.

    From what iv heard off alot of people here and elswhere a mod is pretty useless on a wmr. Has the farmer asked that you use one when lamping?

    No but there are a few houses located nearby so I wouldn't feel comfortable shooting close to them at night.

    You need to re-apply, using an FCA1, for the mod. It may or may not cost another €80, but the use of one without an "S" is illegal as a mod is classified as a firearm in it's own right.

    Now I'm questioning whether it's worth putting a moderator on a magnum if people think it won't make much difference!

    Some of where i shoot is close to a few houses, iv never had any complaints obout noise with the un moderated hmr or the modded 223. An odd shot is not going to piss people off and from a wmr sure it wont be loud from 60 ft away

    Use a sak mod on my 22mag and find it does make a difference when using the 30gr hornady

    Would it be worth buying a moderator and getting the 30gr Hornady? My gun dealer says he also sells A-TEC moderators for €100.00, that they're supposed to be very good although he has no experience with them himself.

    Find the sak does the job myself. The 30gr hornady is just my preference as it runs well in my quad and it closes the gap abit between the 22mag and 17hmr

    I think I'll go for it. When applying for the FCA1 and ticking the "silencer" box, do I just enclose a cover letter stating why I need a moderator?
