I had a windows 7 password on my account - Guest account also set up but needed a password to make any changes.
Is this password in anyway secure. I have a feeling its not.

Also does anyone know of places or methods thieves use to convert stolen laptops into cash?

    Thanks for your help.

It is not. NT Offline Password Editor for example will "take care" of any Windows account password in 2 minutes.

I had a similar experience a few years ago, but the laptop was PW protected through the BIOS. The eejits brought it to a computer shop, asking for help with it. The techie was bright enough to accept the job and contact the Gardai (to whom I had the theft already reported incl. make, model and serial no.). So, when the lads showed up the next day to pick up "their laptop"... surprise, surprise. ;)

Maybe you should have an eye on offers matching your model on the usual ad websites.
