EU outlaws cheaper car insurance for women

INSURANCE premiums are set to rise across the board following a binding European Court of Justice ruling that will ban insurers from using gender to set premiums.

Female motorists are likely to be the big losers. They pay less for insurance because they have fewer accidents. But from the end of next year, insurers will not be able to charge a different premium to men and women.

Obviously, they are not going to reduce men's insurance, they will up the rate for women to equal that of men.

For me car insurance should be based on your record as a driver. Give men the benefit of the doubt and not discriminate (punish) them based on their gender.

Surely if they cannot discriminate on gender then they shouldnt discriminate on age?

I think they should base insurance premiums on how fast you can do a lap of the Top Gear track in a reasonably priced car.

It should absolutely be the same price as a man would have to pay. Ridiculous that it wasn't.

    No
It needs to be cheaper for wimmins so they can buy sexy undies and skimpy dresses that we were reading about here a few months ago.

If they looked into races and accidents do you think they could black people mire than whites. The answer is no because that is racist. So breaking it down to sex is also illegal as its sexist

How do they punish men when they increase the rates for women?
It seems to me it's the women that has been punished, not men.

thats old news from a year ago if you look at the date of the article!

and it's still not implemented is it?

What'll happen simply is that it'll be organised by car type (as happens in germany already)
Underpowered Yaris's for example are dreary womens cars so will be cheap to insure as your mammy rarely crashes and causes eypensive damage.
A nippy corsa or old powerful bmw that boy racers would tend toward would on the other hand be much more to insure.

It'll all work out in the end!
