Have been quoted 490 euro, I think this is just a tad too expensive, anyone know what a run of the mill price would be, and any reccomendations for a decent garage, I'm in the midlands if that helps.

    Cheers all.

Around the 450 mark generally including water pump.

As a guide, my place charges €350 for timing belt kit and water pump on the VAG 1.9tdi so €490 is pie in the sky stuff.

Presumably it was a main dealer?

If your anywhere near Portlaoise you could give George Dalton on here a shout...he charges the same AFAIK.

    That's a grand price ND...

Save yourself the €140 and go for a weekend away of something knowing the job will be done just as well as a main dealer with the same parts.

Yep, it was Nissan Doctor, main VW dealer. Where is your place, PM me if you prefer..... cheers.

Nissan Doctors place (or Georges) is no secret on here, and has had many the positive reports about work done there...Had George do a job for me before, was delighted with the price and service.

Why didn't I know you when I had my Passat? :(

€480 or so is the average main dealer price. We do the same job with the same (genuine) parts for €350.

Maybe not a secret for those who know... I've not got a clue where he is based, but I'm interested to find out.

Nissan Doctor is Atlas Autoservice Drumcondra, George is based on the road between Abbeyleix and Portlaoise. As I said, I'd use either before a main dealer myself.

Fixed that for you:P Trying to distance ourselves from 'tyre fitters servicing cars' mindset:)

I've used ND before, and even started a thread in his honour. But if you're in the Midlands, I'd give George a shout. He's a legend in the VAG community.

i know the parts are in around 170 euro with a trade card in onestop in letterkenny so that makes the labor sound to be expensive

I paid 250 sterling for mine but that's with my regular mechanic.

To be fair if genuine parts are coming in around €170-200, I'd have no issue paying a good mechanic another €150 to fit a belt, tensioner and water pump. You know you'll get a good job and someone who will stand over it.
