NCT Booking Strictness?

Hey all,I just replaced the rear bearings on my car along with a few other bits and pieces. It failed on the 9th of Feb. The guy in the test centre highlighted that it needs to be retested by the 10th of March. I only did the bearings/hub tonight as the first one I got last week was wrong and I was too busy before that to do it.

Thing is when I went to book the retest I spotted that retests MUST BE BOOKED WITHIN 21 DAYS.

How strict are they with bookings? If I call them tomorrow will they allow me to book a retest? Also there's no free dates in my local centre until the 14th which is after the 10th (the 30 days I get to retest it)

Panicking a small bit as I cant really afford another full test.

I think they are pretty strict to be honest with the retests.

So if I ring tomorrow and try and get a slot for the next few days they'll tell me NO because it's over 21 days?

I'm not sure but I'd think that if they say there is a 21 day limit for rebooking they'll stick to it. Try ringing and see, that's the only way to be sure.

call up in person and tell them the crack and be nice, they'll probably throw you in there and then

I dont think you have to go back to the same test center, so it worth ringing up and seeing there are any cancellations in other centers that you might be able to get to.

Something similar happened me over the last couple of weeks. I failed (CV boot was frayed) on Feb 4th and had to do the test before March 5th. I only got the work done on Feb 25, so when I rang on the 27th there were no slots left in Limerick before my retest date. I just booked it in Charleville instead for last Friday evening. Maybe you could look at another test centre that isn't too far away?

yep,as it stands I'm ringing hourly to get a cancellation in either Tralee or Killarney. I know they fit you in for a visual retest but this is an "in-lane" retest I think they call it.

Do these retests have to be logged in the computer box machine in Dublin though?

Yes, unless you know someone on the inside.
