Sorry mods, had no idea where to put this!

Has anyone ever listed anything on DoneDeal and gotten a text from a strange number asking to email them along with an email address? I listed a coffee table last week and nothing... and yesterday I listed a camera and a playstation 2 (!) and got 3 texts all from a numbers like +1 (678) XXX-XXXX, +1 (347) XXX-XXXX and +1 (731) XXX-XXXX... thought this was very strange, has it happened to anyone else? Are these genuine?

The texts all read something along the lines of "Your camera, on DoneDeal, how much? Email me on X@yahoo.ie

Sounds very much not genuine, best thing to do is to maybe drop Done Deal an email. If it's a scam they'll have seen about a million versions of it so far & be able to tell you to avoid. I'd just consider it a scam from the get-go though

I Googled the numbers just to see... the results said the 3 different numbers are all from the states, Georgia, Tennessee and New York! Hmmm

Yeah, I was about to say that. They are all US numbers. It happens a fair bit over here. Seems like it's an automated thing, trawling the ads page for numbers. Most people on craigslist put their number up as oh-eight-seven instead of 087 for that reason.

Avoid them, it's unlikely someone from the US is interested in some advert on donedeal.

its a variation on a paypal scam.

You'll be asked to send a payment request via paypal to their email address and within minutes you'll receive a bogus email from paypal to say the money has been paid, which will look somewhat genuine.

When you log in to paypal (don't follow the link in the email for obvious reasons) you'll see that nothing has been paid.

Just ignore and they'll go else where looking for someone to fall for the scam

Yeah i got one like that, it claimed to be some woman who was looking to buy her son a new car, she said she was on business oversees and she would send some one to have a look and take away the car, the number she was giving was weird, the email was a yahoo one and it was very suspicious from the start needless to say i emailed back saying thanks but no thanks so if i see anything like that now i just ignore it.

This guy, he claims he's from waterford but working at sea, he's getting quite pushy with trying to get me to send him a request via paypal. Freaky stuff...
