    Hi,
First things first. I have navigated the paypal site for over an hour now trying to find the correct email address to use to ask why my paypal account has not been topped up when I sent the transfer from my bank 7days ago = 5 business days. ( we'll chat more about that later).

I've been presented with dozens of drop down menus here there and every where asking that annoying question "which best describes the problem" ....I can't find the one for my problem. Can anyone point me to the right place please.

    Thanks for reading.

Well we had a nice pleasant little chat...not.
The translating from Darjeeling speak to English took up a lot of the time. Still when PAypal get the new place here going hopefully they'll have some phone assistants here again, surely they can afford it now:p.
Anyway no surprises really. same ole same ole. She took the details will make a report and they'll get back to me.

They'll simply credit the account like they did last time....I reackon its their new policy - make you wait as long as poss untill you call them. Happens far too often.
An interesting 22mins!, a good exercise really for those with low blood pressure:)

    ******
On another note I did manage to send a general email asking why when all details on transfer are correct does it take so long to credit account. We'll see what little gems that yields.

Ah well can't live with them can't live with out them....

    No other explainations. Nothing. Just:

    Bank Account Transfer complete.
just not good enough. How long would it have been if I hadn't rang....well, we are going to find out. I am going to conduct a test.
    Watch this space:mad:.

Ok then Just transfered another small sum to my Paypal Account.
Same way as before. theres no mistakes all the details are already saved in my internet banking account I just have to put the Transfer ID number in which of course I have done and that also is correct.

So lets see when this clears, no phone calls mind!;)

You are only been asked to add the Bank A/c to your Paypal A/c .

How do you expect to receive funds into your Paypal A/c if the Bank A/c is not added ?

If you do not add / link / confirm , as requested by Paypal , you are using a very unsecure service

He's sent the money from his bank account to Paypal's, using online banking. This process does not need a linked bank account in Paypal. Linking in Paypal is for withdrawing money only. Paypal shouldn't be asking to link an account as it has nothing to do with his money going missing between the bank and Paypal.

With AIB myself, and if I transfer money from my bank to Paypal it takes 4 days, but the date of transfer on both Paypal and my bank would be the same. Is this the same with yours, or is the date different?

Thank you for making that clear.
I have been depositing in this way for 7 years without a problem and incidentally have never needed to withdraw from Paypal.

    Thanks again, appreciated.

So I replied to Jennifer at PayPal.
I wrote a very nice email thanking them for great service over the years going on to explain that I see no benefit for me linking accounts etc.
I discussed the fact that I was extremely happy with the service and how my account was handled and maintain etc, so much so that I would prefer to keep things as they are and hoped they would understand and accommodate me in my request.
it was all very nice and fairly lengthy.
So I sent the email to her....

This is what the reply was......
    auto reply!
We want to help you but we're not able to respond directly to emails
    sent to this address.

One of the best ways to get answers to your questions is to go to the
PayPal website and visit the Help Center by clicking "Help" at the top
    of the page.

If you have a problem with limited access to your account, you'll need
    to:

    1. Go to the PayPal website and log in to your PayPal account.
    2. Click "Resolution Center" at the top of the page.
    3. Follow the instructions in "Steps to Remove Limitations."

If you can't log in to your account, you'll need to:

    1. Go to the PayPal website.
    2. Click "Contact Us" at the bottom of any page.
    3. Click "Contact Customer Service."
    4. Click "Continue" and follow the instructions.

We value your business and want to provide you with the best customer
    care.

    Thanks,

    PayPal

WELL!:( Finally after me singing the praises of PayPal for years I get confronted with this.
I see what people have had to put up with . I won't tell you what I now think of PayPal as I would get banned. I just never would have belived it. Valued customer indeed. It looks like theres no use in fighting it.
I do not have a limited access to my account.
I can Log in to my account.
All the above totally useless. I need to communictae cotinuously with one person. ,Jennifer of course.

    anyone any ideas !
I am waiting on a phone call from AIBs tech dept about Paypal accessing my account after link up.
But here's what I think they can do. Paypal after Linkup can make 'request' for funds from your bank.( and they said its only for 'verification purposes they must think were stupid)) It doesnt matter if the bank don't pay ...you still get charged for 'the reqest' I will expand on this another time.
heres a link. its what can happen if things go wrong which people probably overlook when linking.

    catch up later...............

In the USA, and the UK, you can fund Paypal from a bank account. That's the kind of linking those threads are talking about. In Ireland they don't have such a system set up, which is a pity as you wouldn't have to go through this process of sending money through your online banking to Paypal's bank account and then wait a week for them to associate that to your Paypal account if they did.

The linked thread caused trouble for that poster because he tried to use Paypal when he had no money in his Paypal account or Bank account. If you try to spend money you don't have, you can expect someone to charge you for the inconvenience.

If you link an Irish bank account to Paypal they will verify it by lodging money IN to your bank account. They do not withdraw money from it.

In your case it is not clear why Paypal want you to link your bank account. This won't help them to receive the money that you've sent to them, as it's a completely separate process.

    Thanks for that.
Accepting that it is for verification only and accepting that once having the bank account details they can make a payment to it and not simply withdraw at will so to speak (which staff at AIB confirmed) we then come to the bit thats unclear.

    So heres a possibility:
After the research I have done I'm taking a guess that similar to the ones described in the US model if I inadvertantly under pressure try to purchase on-line and click 'pay' only to suddenly realise that there is not enough funds in the PayPay account an automatic proccess will kick in whereby PayPal will make a 'request' for those funds from my Bank account. Assuming I get notified of this and then authorise payment my purchasing transaction will then be completed. Now, although there could be a charge for this it might be considered a very useful service.

If this is the underlying reason it would be far better for customer relations to explain the fact and also, and this is the really important bit, make it 'an option' to link up.

I've lost track of how many times I've said this...'Options are nice and friendly'.

I manged to put the two emails in the 'contact PayPal' email fascility, we'll see what happens now.....

    Dear *****

    Thank you for contacting PayPal.
I understand that you are not comfortable adding your bank account to your PayPal account.
I can sense the urgency and importance of this matter to you. I will take care of your issue and provide you the resolution to your concern.
Mr. ***** in order for us to credit your money to your PayPal balance you need to add your bank account to your PayPal account.
PayPal employs the safest encryption system on the Web to safeguard your account information.
The PayPal website uses a technology called Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt the personal and financial information sent over the Internet. This ensures the details you have entered into your PayPal account are secure.
This is the very reason why storing your financial details on PayPal promises more security than entering your financial details manually on each merchant website you visit.
You can identify a secure website as there will be an icon of a locked padlock at the bottom of the screen to indicate encryption.
Most importantly, as long as no one knows your password, no matter how many spam or spoof emails you receive, no matter how many people would know your name, your account will remain safe and secure.
Even if someone gets hold of your email address, it is useless if they do not know your password. You just need to keep your password to yourself to prevent fraud and always remember never to disclose your password on any untrusted website or email.
I hope this information will resolve your concern. Please let me know if you require further assistance.
    Thank you for choosing PayPal.
    Yours sincerely,

    Might be needing alternatives soon....
problem is I just took a look at my ebay account where I do my buying. And I clicked on businesses where I have purchased before and was relieved to see all the cards listed as alternative payment methods. Thank God.....

Then just as I was about to leave the site my cursor happened to hover over one of the alternative cards..:eek::eek:shock horror...
    dialog came up saying....""through paypal!!!!:eek::eek:
wow, they have it all sown up .I don't believe it!
This is jaw dropping stuff. Is this true that I also now cannot purchase on Ebay unless I use Paypal?, certainly looks like it at the moment.
    I find this incredible.

lol I have to laugh becuase this seems like a nightmare that I will wake up from:rolleyes:

    Some learning curve this week!!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,713 ✭✭✭✭jor el

It's been like that pretty much always. Practically no seller on eBay will process credit cards themselves, they all use an agent (normally Paypal). Even if they did take credit card directly, it would be quite dodgy from the buyer's perspective, unless it was again through a 3rd party payment processor (like SecurePay or other agent).

eBay owns Paypal, so there is a natural link between the two.

Without Paypal, you basically won't be using eBay

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 835 ✭✭✭the watchman

I remember being forced to link Gmail and Youtube because there's nothing to match Youtube and now this.
Is there an 'equivelant' to Ebay that I can use with out PayPal I wonder. I'm thinking not! This is a big problem for me. I didn't realise the power and dominance PayPal has. The problem arrises when two huge Global companies that we depend on become one. Fall out with one and you can't use the other. I do think there should be some regulation over this because disputes can impact so serverly on peoples way of life but then thats a story for another time.

Jor el as my original posting has grown into something completely different and much more of an issue than just a 'late top up' and something for which I am still looking for support, information and ideas on I thought it might be as well to start a new thread on the subject and thought you might be able to start it for me by pulling off a few of my latest posts and using them to start the thread with. Would appreciate your thoughts on that Jor el.

Ok swift update. Under huge pressure for time over these coming days.
Just sent a return email, very lengthy and can't get into that now.
I thought the prudent thing to do because I'm expecting the worst (thought about it and I won't be linking) is to make a record of my PayPal account details to keep.
Very difficult to get purchase transactions off the page! any way kept trying different methods and finally got them off. not easy.

Then I tried to get all my payments to paypal!!!!!! it gets more interesting... Date range from day one of opening account to the present...none showing! ...if only that were true it would explain everything :D

so rememeber if your going into dispute with Paypal get your records down (if you can) quick 'cause if they lock account you might have no details to refer to later.........

Well, after what, 10 months its finally over.

Refresh memory. After 4 years PayPal decide that they want me to link private bank account . I refuse (only use PP for buying).
After approximately 9 emails each way all going nowhere and round in circles I take my case to the Ombudsman in Luxembourg.

Paypal have finally relented and I can again use my PP account as I always have done 'without linking my bank account'.

Did they relent under presure from the Ombudsman I'll never know for sure as there has been no correspondence from PayPal and no final/closing correspondence from the Ombudsman yet. I have sent my thanks to them so maybe I might still hear from them.

Of course PP might simply have realised that as promised I was never going to use PP or Ebay again and the decision to restore was purely the reluctance to loose a customer. Probably never know for sure.

So a tip here is if you only use PP to buy and you don't want them to have your bank account details then don't Link. This 'Verification' request is really not always necessary. Its their way of getting hold of your bank details which is always very good for them;)
