    home_no_flash_2012.jpg

Right it's that time of year again and this thursday sees the start of Baselworld 2012. Runs from the 8th to the 15th of March and sees some 1800 companies showcase their latest developments and innovations to the world.

Thought it would be an idea to have a thread specifically for all the news/updates/pics coming from the show in one place.

    Anybody going out of interest?

There is a pretty cool Baselworld App available for iphone/Android/Blackberry etc available here

Looking forward to seeing the latest and greatest offerings from our favourite brands..

To make a real trip you need to spin down to Geneva for the Salon d'Auto afterwards (I don't think they usually happen the same week)

don't like the new Rolex SkyDweller - even the name - does it mean anything other than it's attempting to jump on the popularity of the SeaDweller??

I like the yellow on that Speedmaster - though not sure i could wear a Speedmaster with rubber strap.

    Breitling Transocean Chronograph Unitime

46mm steel or rose gold case, automatic mechanical manufacture movement (Breitling B05, COSC), leather strap or Ocean classic bracelet

    2a6mvf4.jpg

    714pr7.jpg

Breitling launches the Transocean Chronograph Unitime, a gorgeous new worldtimer that simultaneously and constantly indicates the time in all 24 time zones. The watch has a new in-house “universal time” chronograph movement, the B-05. To change time zone, simply pulling out the crown and turning it in one-hour increments is enough to adjust in one smooth move the hour hand, city disc and the 24-hour disc, including the calendar — and none of these operations disturbs either the time or any timekeeping operations in progress. The watch also has a 1/4 second central chronograph .

For 2012 Omega returns to its tradition of offering very cool high-tech quartz pilot watches. The Z-33 is of course offered in honor of the famed Speedmaster X-33 from several years ago. Limited in production, the X-33 is now a highly lusted after collector's item. While a new watch, the Spacemaster Z-33 is produced in honor of some very important historic Omega watches.
More images will come soon, but for now you can see that the most iconic aspect of the Z-33 is the case. This is the same case design as the original Speedmaster Alaska Project watch. It was a Speedmaster designed to survive extreme cold temperatures (such as those on Mars). The version of the Alaska project watch with this case I don't think was ever produced. Though it did exist and it is very cool.
I also believe that it was the first watch case made out of titanium. It is thus fitting that the new Spacemaster Z-33 watch case is also in titanium. I will offer more tech specs when I have them available to discuss the dimensions of the watch. The case is not super large, but the case might appear that way. It is a thick piece, and very interesting looking on the wrist. The thick metal case was originally designed to protect the movement.
Like the X-33 the Z-33 will have a special thermo-compensated Swiss quartz movement. Inside the Z-33 is the Omega quartz calibre 5666 multi-function analog/digital movement. Until the X-33 with revolving text, this model has the LCD screens in an easier to read horizontal format. The special red on black screens (with backlighting) offer superior legibility.
Large titanium pushers offer the ability to easily operate the various functions that include alarm, perpetual calendar, chronograph, timer, and second time zone. The dial depsite the LCD screens is very legible and modern with a classic tint. The Spacemaster dial has SuperLumiNova all over it for night viewing as well.
This is very much a pilot watch. It has only 30 meters of water resistance, but that should be fine for most people using it. The design is really cool, and I am glad that Omega is still focusing on those wanting high-function high-end quartz movement watches. The historic case and nod to Omega's past are going to be desirable touches. The watch will come with both a leather and rubber strap. More details on the new Spacemaster Z-33 watch as I get them.

My eyes... my eyes.... Jesus, that Omega is horrendous. I haven't really looked too much, but I haven't seen anything from the main brands to get excited about.
And only Rolex could trumpet a version of an existing watch with the date function removed as a 'new watch'

That Rolex Sky-dweller not only has a stupid name, but the design is all over the shop, very poor effort.

That Omega Spacemaster looks like a handgrenade with a timer :D

The winner for me so far is the Tudor Pelagos. I think its stunning. Its harking back to the original snowflake.

That was the rumour for a long time, but it has been no secret that they were bringing out a ceramic ND sub at Baselworld for some time. The reported price increase though to €5930 was a bit of a surprise!

My soon to be incoming steinhart ocean 44 will also have a ceramic bezel and at only 7% of the cost ;-)

I love the blue/teal lume, this is what I'd like the Steinhart Ocean 2 to do for it's lume, white during the day, and teal at night

Love that 43mm Carrera. The original is lovely, but a little small for me. This one's a winner...

    Tudor Pelagos

    2w4he6u.jpg

Price on this has been confirmed at CHF 3950 which at todays rate is EUR3276.97.

Oh the bracelet on this is something to behold...
what could be the most impressive part of thie already impressive timepiece is the titanium bracelet with a folding steel clasp fitted with a unique spring-loaded self-adjusting mechanism’ developed and patented by TUDOR. This "floating" clasp adjust to the changing thickness of the human wrist as you descend deeper and deeper - you see, your wrist will actually get thinner the deeper you go, and a watch can often become loose under water - here, the Tudor automatically gets tighter on you based on the pressure it senses around you. The clasp also offers a three fine adjustment points for the best fit possible

If the Tudor Black Bay vintage had a black bezel then I'd be ALL OVER it.

German manufacture Nomos added two new models to their popular Zurich line this week at Basel, the Zurich "Blaugold" and "Braungold." Changes are limited to the dials of these watches, you'll find the same lovely epsilon movement within. The addition of color goes a long way here, and NOMOS fans will undoubtedly appreciate the additions as they add to an already colorful past for the brand.

There were no new calibers from the brand this year, though we are assured development is underway and can expect to see something next year, perhaps a new complication.

We got our hands on the new Zurich models today so check out more live pics after the break. Pricing for both is 2960 Euros.
