Can someone recommend a scrap yard in the south side of Dublin that i can trust to get a good price for scrap and an estimate of what to expect for a copper cylinder.
    I also have the following:
A fair few old brass fittings and a few offcuts of copper pipes.
    An old cast iron fireplace.
An old back boiler from a coal fire - am i right to say this is worthless and should be happy for them to take it off my hands
    Thanks for any advice

Had some friendly chappies around my house last month selling some tools or suchlike and they spotted my old copper cylinders in the garden (which I have plans for). The final offer was €60 each!! I refused of course but may give you some idea. I have not worked out the weight but doubt they would overpay.

Really old copper cylinders would be worth a few quid. Dont know if you would get €60 blips for one though. Copper fluctuates all the time. If it's around 10 years old you wont get as much because it's thinner. I try to save up a few before I go because it's not worth the travelling with just one.

I was at the recycling centre today and got 5euro a k.g for copper.
the cylinders came in at around 11 k.g each but as johnniek says the old the cylinder the better the price you will get.
I had a 36x18 weighing 16k.g it was years old while the 42x18 only weighed 9k.g that one was about 6-7 years old.

€5 per kilo is an excellent price. I normally get €4 per kilo. A typical 30 gallon cylinder is as Roy Rodgers says, approx 11kg. I got about €250 the other day for 3 cylinders and some scrap copper.
