Seen as we have our own forum now, I thought it'd be good to have a thread on elections given the week that's in it.

There are some brilliant posters in college, this:

    in particular.

The policies and manifestos are pretty much run of the mill, the usual ideas about library hours and printing.

I'll post more when I get a chance to digest the manifestos, but in the mean time, opinions?!

Hustings should be interesting with all the candidates running. It was very dead last year.

It's a shame we can't get M&N back in for another year. They've done some excellent work over the last year and have been a pleasure to talk to whenever I can. Set a new standard for the upcoming candidates, to which I wish the best of luck! :)

M&N are leaving massive boots to fill, and if they could run again they'd almost certainly be re-elected. They're completely on top of their briefs and go over and beyond what would normally be expected of them. They're scarily organised and well informed.

Do agree about it being dead last year. Probably due to the fact that M&N were such strong candidates.

It'll be a very different election this year I would say.

Indeed... I'm really looking forward to hustings this year, though I'd say it will go on for a very long time.

I think the manifestos are a bit more innovative than last year. Charge your phone in the SU? Count me in! :)

Where can ya see the manifestos? Are they online?

You can read everyone's manifesto on misu.ie, just click on the blue/pink box that says "Student Elections".

Definitely some good ideas put into them, people seem to be taking it seriously this year. Some election promises seem a bit random though. Came across one today, can't even remember who it was: "abolish the weighing system in the canteen". Is that really the major issue in college at the minute?

There was a great turnout for hustings tonight, which was good to see.

Fair play to all the candidates they came across well.

The returning officer was very strict on the rules, as he was last year. I couldn't believe he had a gavel to bang to keep track of time. And let's just say he wasn't afraid to use it!

Best of luck to all the candidates tomorrow.

Any word on the elections? Thought they'd have some info on MISU regarding the count.

They did last year but to be fair, there was a lot less candidates.

    Mairead's only competition was RON.

Wouldn't be surprised if the counting is still in process.

Congrats to Darragh and Cillian on their win. Seem like decent lads who put a lot of effort into their campaign. Comisserations to the other candidates.
