I know its not a lot but searching donedeal and adverts and it just seems people don't bother looking after there cars or advertise them covered in dirt and not bother washing them for…

Max 1.6 petrol or 1.9 diesel.

for this kind of money what make should i be looking for thats not going to cost me a fortune,last 2 cars have been renault and was forever throwing money at them.

Pug 406 hdi has a pretty good rep. That or maybe a focus in 1.6 guise.. (have two in my family, both trouble free). Both should be easily got for your budget .

I would buy something like this.

I had the td version and it was a lovely car.

Stick a set of drop links into it every year and keep it serviced.
I traded my 406 in with 160k miles 4 years ago and i still see it around.
My last car (citroen c5) had that engine and it was still running perfectly at 180k miles
