Direct debit being taken out on wrong date?

    We pay both electric & gas with Electric Ireland. This month both bills were taken out of our bank account a day early. Today is 4th March yet my gas bill says paid on 5th march & the money has already come out of my account. Same thing happened last week with my electricity. Who is at fault here? Electric Ireland or my bank?

    Hi WhiteTiger,

    Electric Ireland give the customer 14 days from the time of bill issue to the direct debit collection date. On the 11th day, we would send a request to the bank for the amount in question; the bank would then send the funds to us on the 14th day.

    If this has happened a day earlier than expected, I would recommend contacting your bank for clarification. If you would like me to look into it from our side, please feel free to send me the following details:
    • Your full name, address and account number
    • Your contact number and date of birth (for account security)
