XBMC & HTPC

Needing some help with my HTPC setup, i have installed xbmc on an old pc to try it out before i either buy or build a dedicated htpc.I am eventually looking to get rid of sky altogether i like the way xbmc categorises my movies and tv shows but its the add ons i cant seem to get a grip of. I can install them but keep getting script errors on a lot of them. Also is it possible to connect through a proxy to watch say bbciplayer or hulu, any help would be appreciated thanks.:)

I started using xbmc about 6 months ago and have my HTPC build in all. I love it. I ditched my chorus box once I got it working right.

As for the addons are you running Dharma or Eden?. Ive read that alot of developers have changed over from Dharma to Eden so that might be a reason that you get the errors (same thing happened to me a while back), or the opposite way around. Developers might wait until the final build of Eden before releasing their updated addon.

Is there any in particular you can remember as I have alot of sport,tv and movie ones.

I have not connected through a proxy but I imagine its pretty simple.

Just out of interest have you tried using sickbeard and/or couch potato?

hi Nagin thanks for the info i was trying to add 1channel and LiveTV but i kept getiing the script error just had a look at sickbeard there will have a better look when i get home. Found one site for sports but you have to pay a subscription dont want to get a ban on here by mentioning it ever tried it? Just another quick question what remote do you use ? ultimately i want top get rid of sky altogether but the Mrs will only do it if she can just turn on the tv and press a button to change channels is this possible i am just using a wireless keyboard and mouse at the moment, if i can do this and cancel our monthly sky sub i can get the 50" plasma i have my eyes on

Well what im using is a Logitech Harmony 650 remote. Its pretty good. I just got a HP RC6 USB IR Receiver.

I got mine from ebay. Cost 12e delivered

Controls my tv, xbox360, htpc and a fan/light on the ceiling.

A press of a button is all it takes. If i press 'Game' it turns my tv to HDMI 2 and powers on the xbox or if I press 'TV' on the remote it changes to Ext on the tv and turns on the Chorus box on (when i had it), same thing with the HTPC. Just map the buttons you want and away you go.

Prob takes 10-15 min to setup each device but one click to get everything working is mucho flashy.

Im just finishing up work now so I wont have time to answer your question about addons but ill get back to you when im in work again
